1. Does any of you know if there's a new rule that makes it compulsory for non-native speakers of English to take a TOEIC test in order to get a work permit?
2. I read somewhere that 5 countries were excluded from this rule: The USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The Republic of Ireland isn't mentioned. Does this mean that teachers from Ireland would also have to take the test?
Thanks.

It would seem a bit unfair to test the citizens of the Republic but let people from Belfast go straight through.
Although I have met people from Limerick who are almost as incomprehensible as people from Belfast.
I suppose they have to draw a line somewhere, if they let the Irish off the next thing you know the Saffers will be whining about it too.
I'm just winding you up. I don't know anything about it, it would be a huge over-site on the part of the department of Education though.
It would be nice if there was a definite answer!
I got my original degree certificate but may need a transcript. ** The Thai Culture Course has been suspended or abolished? I got that last year through an agency but have no paperwork. Now the new school is demanding that - or to re-take it for "6,000 Baht".
AFAIK my school never submitted an application to the TCT. Which might make getting a waiver easier.
Now I have to take this TOEIC test? Mmh. How much is it? Will it be administered in major towns as well?
Hope you will all have a good start this month!
Mel
Wasn't there a previous list that included Ireland and South Africa?
No idea mate . . .
---Update---
1200 baht, according to this source:
