Ins and outs of non imm B - second stint validity

Do you know whether a three-month multiple entry visa (non imm B) for Thailand can be used to obtain a WP through another employer once an initial (short) contract is over?

I am being sponsored for a non imm B but only doing a month's work. However, I may then stay on to work for someone else - if I get lucky

Also, can a non imm B be extended without having to leave Thailand?

Can you convert a single entry Non Imm B to a multiple entry Non Imm B later on, once you are getting a WP?

Not possible. Once you have a work permit you can apply for an extension of the permission of temporary stay based on employment. That extension is valid for the duration of your employment contract.

So if I want a multiple-entry visa to go with my WP, I will have to get what at the outset?

    (Just to confirm - I'm a bit thick )

Otherwise my WP would be cancelled along with Non Imm B on exiting Thailand?

    No.

AFTER you get the extension based on your W/P you then, if you want to travel outside the country, get a re-entry permit. They cost 1000 baht per re-entry OR 3800 for unlimited out/in during the 1 year of validity of your extension.

You can extend annually (visa and work permit) for as long as you remain with the same employer and can get a re-entry permission (single as often as necessary - multiple annually) at the same time./

eg: I have been with the same employer for the last 3 years. I entered on a tourist visa. Changed by status to non-b within 2 weeks of my initial entry. The employer (nice people that they are) arranged my work permit for me. They then took me back to immigration to extend my stay to the end of my one year contract. They then took care of my W/P extension to match the dates of the visa extension.

I didn't plan any travel outside Thailand that year so I didn't get a re-entry permit.
Near the end of my first year I decided to extend my employment with my current employer so after signing a new contract we went back to immigration to extend my visa for an additional year. The employer then returned to the local labor office and extended my work permit to match the additional extension of my visa.

I planned a trip out of the country during my vacation period so I obtained a re-entry permit at the same time that I extended my visa. That single use re-entry permit cost me 1000 thb.

I repeated the process for the 3rd year but didn't get a re-entry permit when I did the 3rd extension. I have since needed to make several trips out of the country to attend different conferences so I popped into my local immigration office and obtained a multi-use re-entry permit shortly before my trip abroad. It cost me 3800 thb.

I hope that clarified things a bit for you.

Holy shit! My head is spinning after that little lot

Thanks for taking the time, though.

    So basically I don't need a multiple-entry Non Imm B - I need a mult-use re-entry permit once I get the WP sorted - correct?

Would it not be cheaper to just get a Non-Imm B multiple entry visa instead?? Or doesn't this suffice? I guess they want to make more money out of us farang

    Please confirm

I don't know about the costs of the multi-non-b or what happens to your w/p if you leave on a multi-entry non-b (I suspect no change)

    but changing from a
tourist to a non-b (should it be necessary - for other readers) = 2000 thb,
    extension of non-b after W/P = 2000 / year
    and re-entry permit 3800 / year

It also might be notable here to mention that if you don't think you will travel outside of the country more than 4 times per year that you can just get single use re-entry permits as needed (local immigration office or at the airports) for 1000 thb each time.
