Wait, so I have a visa that expires on the 9th of October. I was given only a letter of some sort from the private school I will be teaching Kindergarten at that says I'm working there, the pay, and has my signature, etc. My visa is tourist and was only a 14 day visa. It says I need a 15 day visa in order to get non-B visa. How is this possible? Because when I flew in I had a 30 day stamp visa, but have since had to do a Cambodia run and they only gave me a 14 day visa. Even if I were to do another Cambodia run, it still would only give me 14 days. This would effectively make it impossible for me to get a non-B visa. Is there something I am missing?

Yes. You need to submit all of the relevant documents for a non B visa at a Thai embassy in either Vientiane or Penang. The 14 day and 30 day stamps are not tourist visas.

That's a visa exemption and the permission of stay given is 15 days.

Any holder of a passport or a substitute passport whose nationality falls under the category for which the Minister permits a temporary stay for tourism purposes, by consent of the Cabinet, shall, according to Clause 13 (3) of the Ministerial Regulation Stipulating the Criteria, Procedures, and Conditions for Verification, Exemption, and Change of Visas B.E. 2545 (A.D. 2002), dated August 16, 2002, be granted multiple entries. The permitted period of temporary stay for each entry shall not exceed thirty days from the date of entry into the Kingdom. However, an exception is made in the case of travelling into the Kingdom through immigration checkpoints at borders with neighboring countries, whereby the permitted period of temporary stay in the Kingdom for each entry shall not exceed fifteen days from the date of entry into the Kingdom.
ORDER OF THE ROYAL THAI POLICE No. 778/2551 Subject: Authority to Grant a Temporary Stay in the Kingdom of Thailand to Aliens Who Are Granted Visa Exemption

Just to clarify, changing a 60-day tourist visa or visa-extension does NOT require a trip out of country? For example, with 15+ days left I can bring all that stuff down to immigration in *shudder Chiang Mai?

Yes, but it can only be done in Bangkok. Several teachers in my school have done this in the past.

So teachers anywhere in Thailand on a tourist visa need to head to BKK with all the goods? Just want to make sure as I am in CM, getting ready to head to Laos for a T-V since I just maxed out my Mae Sai runs.

If you have all the paperwork for a change of status it would make sense to get a B visa instead of a tourist visa while you are in Laos.
