Hi all,
So, I am looking at beginning teaching in Bangkok after the new year.
I have a job lined up and the employer has agreed to take me onboard.
The problem is, I don't have a degree or any teaching qualifications and am getting my TEFL/TESOL certificate through the school
whilst I'm over there.
Will I encounter any problems with my teaching license or visa with the MOE or immigration?
I have read that they are strict on teachers coming in to Thailand unqualified so I thought I had better enquire before I start applying.
Apologies if this post doesn't follow correct customs or whatever, I'm new to the forum
Thanks,
Josh
If the school, is in Bangkok ... they're bullshitting you about the job. Unless they are going to employ you illegally. Which is the only way they can in Bangkok if you don't have a degree.
Sounds fishy to me. Do they KNOW you haven't got a degree?
Ask them.I don't have a degree or any teaching qualifications and am getting my TEFL/TESOL certificate through the school
They may have a friend in a uniform.
All done. All smiles. All legal.
It's thailand. No need to go hoop jumping mate.

Welcome Josh, if you are coming for a one year working holiday - go for it - if you want money and or a career - get a degree before you come - good luck.

Thanks guys.
@keekwai, No, the school definitely isn't bullshitting. The school is owned by a friend of mine's family so thats how it came about, and yes they know I don't have a degree.
@stamp, it isn't just a basic education school, it is a private english training institute, do the rules differ if that is the case?
The owner seems to know what he's doing so I shall leave it up to him to figure out.
@Mister T, yeah just over for a year or two for a working OE type venture, was offered a very competitive wage plus great accommodation and food so I couldn't refuse
Thanks for the responses guys, was just after an outside opinion so I know if I'm getting myself into something illegal or whatever.
Josh
@stamp, thanks heaps
A weekend in Hong Kong every 3 months doesn't sound too bad haha.
