What if the thai person has lived oversees, does not speak a word of thai and gets the red card that requires conscription. I wonder what they would do about that?

"needs more cowbell"
Is that a hypothetical question?

It would make commonsence to send only experienced soldiers to the deep south, though this is Thailand were commonsense is a scarce commodity.

Serving in the Thai military is not a death sentence in the life of a young person, and could possibly do him some good. On the other hand, there is the very real possibility of a US draft and this could be a death sentence. Why doesnt he just enlist or go in as an officer? This would afford more choice than if he were drafted.Originally Posted by uncleclot
So how and why are they gonna start up the draft again? So you can just choose to go in as an officer?Originally Posted by DontTaserMeDude

Will he have to go in the Thai Military ??
Why does everyone have to go ?
What's his chance's? Who will look after his bills .... if and when he goes ?

This all seems a little crazy......... That they make all Thai boys go to the army
What's up with that..?
Why....
Is this TRUE...... it can't be true
I worry so much about that.... and for him
Thanks any help or info or links to some good solid info would be great

Me
It's a random draw when your friend turns 21 years old.
Don't know what percentage has to do this 'national service'.
We must not confuse statistical probability with some transcendental and utterly compelling force.
