Thread: Congratulations, Papa Lor Ling

Hi Nat,

Thanks for asking. Wasn't sure whether I wanted to start a thread as I didn't wanna make people puke by chuntering on about how cute my kid is.

But Nathan (Lil Lor Ling) is a cutie so I'll happily fill you all in

He was born by caesarian last Monday morning at Pra Ram 9 hospital (I remember you said it's a good hospital, and we certainly were pleased with the service). Had to be a caesarian as Little Man showed little inclination of coming out in the conventional manner. Maybe he'd heard what a messed up world it is!!!

Like his father he's a bit of a porker - birth weight 3.97 kg which I worked out as about 8.5 pounds to put it in a non-metric UK stylee. Oddly enough for a Luk kreung kid he's got slightly red hair (I was a carrot-top before I became a slap-head and took to shaving all my barnet off). I used to joke that he'd have red hair and chinese eyes thinking that the combo was impossible. I guess not!!!

Was a bit worried when on monday the nurse told my wife that he has jaundice and that he'd need phototherapy treatment. They call jaundice 'dua luang' (or something like that) which as you prolly know means 'yellow body'. Well, being half thai-chinese he was always gonna be a bit yellow, but I guess they deemed him to be dangerously so!

His lovely mum came out of hospital on Thursday, but Nate only came home today. They wanted to keep an eye to make sure everything was ok (and prolly milk us for a few more baht too). We couldn't wait for him to get home, and it's a steep learning curve, but we're gonna do the best we can, and luckily the mother-in-law lives 5 minutes walk away.

Anyway gotta wrap this up as Little Man is crying. Gonna be a mental next 6 months I suppose (or rather, next 18 years more like) but looking forward to being the best dad I can.

Hope that wasn't all too nauseating, and thanks a million for asking and giving me the chance to gush!!!

Best of luck, and it shoud only be about 3 months of nutso times. Once Nathan can hold his head up you will be in heaven and so will he. Have fun man, and always look on the bright side of things.

My kids were born with blond hair and blue eyes. The eyes lasted 3 weeks, but they still have a light brown hair color as did my dad.

Post some pix when you are comfortable.

Congratulations Lor Ling,and Mrs Lor Ling!! Lots of sleepless nights now, but lots of smiles too! And shitty nappies, but drinks and cigars too!
My baby is 18 now, so enjoy every minute-they grow up so quickly, and these days, are adults at 12 (or so they think!!)

Remember to take care of yourself, and your lady, during the next few stressful months. Eating right, staying hydrated and exercising should help with the sporadic sleep and stress.

Congrats mate...yep it's three months of totally mental sleeplessness, and then it gradually gets saner....gradually mind you...what makes the difference will be the growing personality, and the increase in interactions with you.
