I must admit that there are times when I have to look at being a father and be quite happy. It's good to have someone who can protect you and your abode. And it's good to have a good daughter.
Being a father to Man's Best Friend isn't always easy, but it has its rewards. Things like a face that always seems to be smiling at you. Someone to greet you with much cheer and a wagging tail whenever you come home. Someone who likes to catch the ball when you throw it, and bring it back to you.

My Thai relatives think that I'm mad when I say that I don't want children, they always ask me who is going to look after me in my old age (not a valid reason to have children at all but I'm not allowed to tell them that) and I say that I love my dogs like children and they keep me company better than The Wife. I'll always want to have dogs, especially when I'm old.

Dogs are so dependent that it is a serious task and commitment to raise one until the end.
Good point. I tried to keep a Siberian husky once in my house back home, but only held onto it for about a week or two.
I've kept this gem for over a year now...going on fifteen months.
