Our son has just turned one, and we are looking for somewhere for him to go twice a week so that he can socialise/ play/ have fun with other children.
We have already taken a look at Gymboree and Babies Genius, but found the music noise levels overwhelming - at both places the play leader was singing (shouting) into a mic while the boogie box was blaring out at a million decibels. The sound levels were just unacceptable.
I checked out a few in Thong Lo; they want around 30-48k per term - I kid you not.
So, if anyone knows of a place, please post the info. We live in On Nut, near the BTS, so travel is not a big problem.
Thanks in anticipation.
They like it too loud this lot, me and my wife had to leave the homeworks sale show at bagna the other week, i like loud music but it was way over the limit, plus 2 promotion girls talking shit together which was even louder, we left and went to home pro instead. to answer your question though, there are 3 nursey scholls down my soi in Suttisan, probably a bit far though.
This is driving me mad too. As i said in my outdoor life thread, going to the park in this heat is not a feasible option with a toddler. Mine's bored with her toys, bored with her environment but the prices at Baby Genius etc (particularly when you factor in a taxi there and back with the nanny) are an absolute joke.
What is needed is a basic play school - a safe (padded) air-con environment with a range of toys, climbing equipment that parents can't afford to buy by themselves. Toddlers could come with their nannies (i.e small basic admin and nursing staff only really needed) and parents could pay say, 100-150 baht an hour. You could also have a little dorm for sleeping and a cafe serving reasonably-priced food. You could also have minibuses that made regular pick-ups around the moobans. Nannies/carers would love it because it would get them out and chit-chatting. What you have at the moment is a situation where everyone's stuck indoors all day with their kids burning money on staying cool, with the kids getting little to no stimulation or varied company. Crazy, but such are the drawbacks of a low-tax small state economy.
There's a crying need for this type of facility and if I had the capital, I'd be seriously looking at rolling out a chain of such establishments.

I run Russian language kids' club in Bangkok, we are very busy in the afternoon but the place is empty in the morning.
We might have a morning playgroup in English, say from 9:30 to 11:30. My daughter (2,4) will be happy to have new friends (we stopped Gymboree too), maybe some our neighbours would like to join in.
I have it on my mind as a playgroup with parents, not a daycare as that's too much responsibility.
We have a room with total area of about 50m2, bathroom inside, soft foam mats on the floor, many smart toys. I can create age-appropriate program for our little ones. In the club I take care of everything by myself, including cleaning. The charge 300 baht for session. Our little Russian members don't want to go home after the sessions
We are located at BTS Chong Nonsi, next to Empire tower.
Let me know if you are interested! We can start our playgroup in early January.
What goes around that comes around.
... or get a new job in Seoul. One thing I'll say for Korea is that they have ample and fairly cheap playrooms/clubs all over the place for the young 'uns.
Even the supermarkets have excellent, supervised (and very cheap) padded play areas for 1 - 5 yr olds. Slides, steps and balls galore! Superb. Nothing in Thailand comes close (and I've searched - the closest thing in LOS being those kiddyland play areas - in places like The Mall, but these are very poor compared to the ones here in Seoul!).
