We took the kids for a teeth clean and check today. My 5 year old boy has never much liked dentists but was doing ok until the very end when the dentist put the teeth shaped moulds filled with flouride into his mouth. He just screamed while crying.
Major drama is that next time he has to get some work done so the dentist suggested that next time, he shoudl use gas to put him to sleep.
I have never used gas and don't know much about it, especially for kids. Has anyone ever had experience with gas at dentists, and especially, does anyone know if it is safe for youngsters to go under the gas?

I've had it once. My gut tells me don't do it! Remember you live in a nation where 49.5 is a passing score. From what I've learned from a few medical Ss I had at AUA, 49.5 goes for medical schools too.
I think the doctor is pretty good, and my choice of all the ones the kids have visited. I don't really doubt his technical ability.
Maybe gas for kids is as normal as beer is for me?
I had gas at a dentists when I was about 7.
It was great.
I had a dream about sword fights.
So those of you have had it sounds like its not such a big drama.
I know what you mean desertexile, that is my first reaction, but am keen to hear from those who have been there and done that.
I had gas when I was about 8 or 9 at the dentists, had some extractions.Being gassed was fine felt a bit like bein in the "Time Tunnel". I remember being sick afterwards though.
WAAAY too risky for a delicate child as you Buckie, having all that blood trying to pressure-squeeze into a tiny space.
Seriously, rather the doctor seems okay or not doesn't matter. If your replies all come up saying they've had it too and it was okay doesn't mean there's no risk. It would also be his first "trip." Isn't five a little young to get off?
Bummer greeny, my kids hate the dentist as well. Must take after me. I dont know if I would give the gas. They cover my kids face with a cloth now and things go better.

Too long in Exile my friend, Baby you can never go home again.
Any full anesthetic has a small risk of having a bad reaction with varied consequences, the worst of which is death of course. I wouldn't do it and won't allow it for my son here in Australia, let alone in Thailand, unless it is major surgery.
We could all sit outside on banana lounges discussing the best way to rebuild a 4WD transmission and agree, through shared stories of conquests supporting our assertions, that there is no basis to the proposition that those least assured of their persuasions are the first to condemn others for theirs.
Its a pity they dont use Nitrous Oxide here. They started giving me the old happy gas when I was about 7 I guess. Never had a problem after that. Then I moved here and the irrational fear came back.

You had it too eh, old timer?![]()
In a civilized nation, in the operating room, there is an anesthesiologist at the bed side. He/she is a qualified medical practitioner, not the doctor doing the surgery, but an expert who qualifies and quantifies the drug dosage. And yes, surgery is defined as breaking the integrity of skin tissue. Your son will have surgery.
Living in a nation where transparency and responsibility are unheard of, why the Hell would anyone put their kid under the knife with an unqualified administered hallucinogenic unless it's a matter of life or death? There have been, so it seems, a disproportionate number of covered up deaths due to negligence in BKK's most prestigious government hospital. Be afraid, be very afraid. What's wrong with a topical swab and a local injection? Afraid he'll cry?
Me lil m8 cried a bit,,,,,, at 1st
then da dentist calmed him down,,,,,,,n did da job
game over
betta than takin a risk wiv a kid's life innit
