Thread: Babysitter needed -- now where to get them!??

I think I've posted this before, but I'll post again since I can't find any related thread.

I need a babysitter. A competent one. Doesn't need to know engRish, just as long as she's competent. English would definitely be a big plus though.

So where do I look?

I'm in Bangkok, around the Bangbon-Bangkhae area.

Age doesn't really matter. Competence does.

Hasn't your wife got a sibling or young cousin that could help? That seems to be the usual plan here.

Yes it is, and the sister-in-law is getting fed up with it. We need someone who is willing to get paid to do it, as my sister-in-law's pride is far too high up in the clouds for me to be making an example of her.

Starting is 5k a month but willing to go up to 10k, depending on qualifications. I'll PM you.

you need to be clear on what you want
and it is very hit and miss, whether you get a good one or not so think long and hard over any decision

for something decent expect to pay at least 9k plus food, and forget amy references or recommendations cos these people change moods from day to day

It was only a matter of time before I got a comment like this.

First of all, not every teacher here makes 50-80k a month, thank you. Second, if you think everybody can look after their kids while at work then... either give me good suggestions (short of quitting my job, me being the main bread earner) or others will think that's the stupidest, most careless remark they've ever heard.

If I could, I WOULD look after my son by myself. If I were a wealth farang with a company to manage, I can see how it would be easy to look after my kids while working at home. My dad had done this before me. But I'm not my dad, and there are 11 other siblings I have who are managing the company and I can't dump my kids on them either.

I care a lot about my kids... more than you would probably understand. However, I do have to balance out how much I can spend on a decent nanny versus how much I'd need to save for my kids education in the future, as well as other things. Again, there are good nannies to be had for low wages. Just because you dump a lot of money on one, doesn't guarantee you get the most caring and dutiful person around. Not a long time ago I just read someone's post about his nanny being a real bitch to him even thought the guy 'spoils' her with a monthly compensation of 17,000 baht. Then there are stories of families that have found really nice, hard-working nannies (mostly filipino nannies fit this category.. not trying to make a point) for the range I'm willing to pay. Our maid back in the Philippines is one of them, and we pay her 'above' what most families pay.

Our own live-in maid gets paid a lot less than what I pay our current baby-sitter and she's still happy and with us (literally with us -- she married a relative)!

SO yeah. Saying that's "low pay" is like saying you can fail a student due to low grades. Depends on who you're talking to.
