Of those 3 places can anybody give me an opinion of the best place to live long term? Price, availability of housing? long term car rental?quality of beaches?
I have only been to Phuket (Hai Harn). Thanks
Could you give us a bit more? Are you planning on teaching? Are you retired? Are you bringing children with you? Pets? Help.
I will be teaching. No children, no pets. I have been to Nai harn often and love it but as we know Phuket in general is becoming a bit over run and pricey.I wanted to know how Hua Hin and Muang Suratthani compare to Phuket in overall livability.
Hua Hin is nice![]()
Even a female might find it difficult to find teaching work in Hua Hin. It's a nice place to live, if you can afford to live near the beach (but not on a teacher's salary). A bit hard to get to BKK, though. Lousy medical facilities. Jellyfish, but otherwise the water is great. It is getting overrun and pricey, too.

I found Surat Thani to be a bit of a bore, but perhaps you won't. You should be able to find a townhouse or house for 3500 baht or so for a rather basic set up, perhaps maybe much more as it's impossible for me to know your standards and expectations. As for long term car rental -- sorry, I haven't any idea.
Well, I'm not much help, am I?![]()

Así pues, aquí estamos.
Yeah I've kinda ruled out Surat Thani,I'm going to work but I want beach time too and I don't want to have to become a freakin weekend tourist on Sami.So Phuket or Hua Hin, sunrise or sunset?
Phuket has quite a few schools who hire westerners. The jobs pay lower than in BKK, and the cost of living is higher. Try the net for schools in Phuket and start applying once you're there.
PB's right abou Hua Hin. The jobs are few and far between and it doesn't have a good infrastructure for public transport.
Surat is more provincial, the jobs pay low, but you're close to Samui, Ko Tao, Phuket Krabi etc.
The worst job in Thailand must be the man who has to sit down with a blue marker pen and mark a number two on the two-baht coins to stop people thinking they are one-baht coins.
I wouldn't live in any of those places. There's no beach in Surat. The other two are too touristy and expensive.
"no kids" I used to say that a lot.
Sadly its damn near impossible to save money at a beach location. If you are just in it for the beach choose the one you like the most. I dont think you are gonna find many apartments near Nai Harn. Its the lifestyle not the money on the beaches.

I'm not really planning on saving money. If I wanted to do that I'd got to Korea.I think it is really important to not take any money out of emerging nations but to leave as much behind as possible.

With whom would you leave it? I'd give mine to a few of those YOU YOU dirty movie dirty movie touts at Panthip. If there were any left over it'd go to that farang bar that charges 120B for a Coke.
At the places listed for this thread, a teacher without B.Ed. is not going to be sending money home to Mum.
