Call Centre work in Chiang Mai
Having read Phil's editorial on the homepage about call centre work in CM I was wondering if anyone had applied for these positions? And if so have they heard anything? I've tried applying but postmaster isn't having any of it. I can only imagine every man and his dog wants to don a Madonna headset if it means working out here without teaching English. But then I may be wrong.

Re: Call Centre work in Chiang Mai
^well, you know what they say about great minds thinking alike and all...
... then again, I suppose even a couple of monkeys can be thinking the same thing at the same time, esp. if there is a banana around

Re: Call Centre work in Chiang Mai
El - normally I would say there's got to be a catch somewhere. However, knowing that Phil would have checked it out before writing about it on the front page of his website, you may well find all is above board.
Nonetheless, with 2 million capital need for each work permit (unless they have obtained some sort of exemption), I cannot see them having many foreigners operating the phones and boy would I love to be a fly on the wall when Sharon from Birmingham got to speak to Lek from CM

Re: Call Centre work in Chiang Mai
yeah i know i'm quite dubious myself, with regards to the work permits i was thinking there might be a loophole as this is a multi national german based company... is that a possibility? or even that the thai govt wanted a slice of the call centre pie that india is gorging itself on at the min and are prepared to make an exception??
as you can see i'm clutching at straws here trying to convince myself that its as good as it seems!!!

Re: Call Centre work in Chiang Mai
^it's possible. They may have Board of Investment priviledges. For a "call centre" however I would say unlikely, but certainly possible.

Re: Call Centre work in Chiang Mai
^ I think that's very advisable. Don't not try just because I say you might not get a WP if you get a job there. After all, I could be taking out of my backside

Re: Call Centre work in Chiang Mai
A higher salary than surgeons/physicians earn, in Chiang Mai? Maybe more than a new doctor working only at a govt. hospital, but that's starting salary for general medicine, not surgical specialities, etc.
Let me guess that "residence permit" means a B visa.
Nah, I don't believe it, because the terms used on the website are too glib, too unlikely.. Still, there's no harm in checking it out.
