"If you're not interested in changing where you work (and thus the student population, obviously) then a) your success at applying various and sundry teaching techniques is unlikely to have anything to do with how effective they are in general, and b) your sweeping generalizations about Thai students serve no purpose but to fuel your inertia and your feeling of being an 'insider'. Sadly (for you) few who read your sweeping generalizations will perceive it that way, but hey if it makes you feel good, knock yourself out." -zeusdogg

What are you on about, lavender boy?!

I really like living in Banglampoo/Dusit.

Some great restaurants, like Choke Chit off Tanao Road, Grand Palace, near the river, Saranrom Park for jogging. I really couldn't envisage living anywhre else. I'm 20 minutes door to door from work, which makes my life so stress free.

I can pop down Khao San, and the sois that shoot off from it for shopping or a beer. Or both!

And there's Oh My Cod for a farang food fix.
I'm everywhere you've never been and better than I've ever been

    Till what, pray tell?

Lavender boy is a very local term to describe a bender, a shirt-lifter, a fudge packer.

But I'm just kidding dude. I'm more gay than you. I own a lilac shirt and really like the colour.

And that restaurant is awesome. Been in the same family for 100 years. Curry pastes knocked up from scratch daily. Chok Jit is another way of saying it!

In a phrase! "FAR AWAY" Personally I live out in the sticks halfway between the outskirts of BKK and Nakhon Pathom. By van, BKK is still only 30 to 45 mins away but out here there is no hustle and bustle.

BKK? not while my ass points downwards.

If you have a nice place and are happy you are gonna post so. Thats a fact. For most of us its not the first place we have had. Matty asked you where and said over there. That about sums it up. BKK is huge.

Re: Best place to live in Bangkok?

The question is basically academic because in Bangkok, you really do need to live close to your workplace. In order to ‘choose’ a good place to live, you need to firstly choose your workplace, and you don’t have so much control over that.

Having said that, the year that I lived in Bangkok, I stayed at Samrong; which, technically, is Samut Prakan, not Bangkok. I had a 45 square metre apartment with security entrance, security parking, air, phone and satellite TV for 3,800 baht per month. It was reasonably quiet. There was an abundance of small Thai restaurants nearby, and a 24 hour gas station with a convenience store within walking distance. I was a 10 minute bike ride (had my own motor bike) from Seacon Square / Seri Centre.

A slight downside was that nighttime taxi rides into Sukhumvit Soi 4 cost 130 baht.

Nice cheap apartments with courtyards on Soi 22, several of which only rent to farangs or Thai girls with farang sponsors.

Ouch, a full 130 baht. That must have really hurt.

I massaged boys in Faliraki for a summer. My business partner and I wore bright orange t-shirts with THE MASSAGE GUYS printed on them. Mine had NICK over my left tit, his had STERLING. I still have the t-shirt. I will post a pic of it!

    Beat that....
