People who are struggling to cope with 'burn out' (if such a thing genuinely exists) probably couldn't hack it in their home country either.

I meant acting like a pampered fuckwit kid that can't put up with a little bit of shite and trying to fob it off as 'burnout' is very sad. For Christ's sake there's people with really stressful jobs out there. Basically stop being a pussy and try being a fucking man is what I was trying to say

I didn't mention hostility, or being an angry fuck or anything like that mate....although displays of 'hostility' or getting a bit moody can actually help here on occasion, at least in my experience.....although you got to use it, not let it use you

Re: Burn-out and getting trapped here

Having been here for many moons I feel that this is indeed my home, married with kids I am settled, however the drinking bit has long since passed me by.Much the same for the "I need farang food whinging too".I hear so many peopls state how they need Au Bon Pain or subway nearby to live, or Mcdonalds,Starbucks etc. Forget them all just snobs window dressing !!

I suggest that people stop living in one room apartments and try for either a house or a one bedroomed apartment. Strange as it may seem such accomodation is not that expensive either.

You find you can cook for yourself, friends drop in you have cable t.v. of your choice, above all you are not going to get "cabin fever".

Too many people allow themselves to be brainwashed into thr room living syndrome, one would not do it in ones country of origin so why do it here ?

At the end of the day you make the quality of your lives, so it is indeed up to you to avert the boredom factor.

Life is good here, so you have to make adjustments, you chose the lifestyle let it happen, stop moaning and get a life.

...ok, the guy's dealing with something and not naming it right...what i'm talking about, and ain't always about me, is the stupidity, the utter disregard for anything...i might conclude that the vast majority of thais are nihilists!!!

...it's the vacant stare, it's the inability to think ahead, the fear when someone says hello, it's appearance of service when none is given, it's the laziness, the dismissing of excellence and the embrace of mediocrity...

...holy shit, am i burning out or going completely mad???

Re: Burn-out and getting trapped here

    PH,

I get all that myself mate....but that's just Thais annoying me....it's not burnout per se (at least not to me).

Gotta take the good with the bad really....and push comes to shove it's still (again to me at least) a lot better than in the UK with all the miserable (albeit well educated) fuckwits that don't need a calculator to minus 10 from a 100!!!

Although I do have a big house so maybe as per Fort's post that helps a fair bit (got loads of rooms to run and hide in).

Re: Burn-out and getting trapped here

I'm of the opinion that you've either got the personality to deal with living here, or you don't.
A bit like being a teacher. My bro doesn't want to do it, he's a chef down in Phuket, but I just took to it the instant I stood up in front of my first ever class in Crete, 2 and a half years ago. Same with Thighland; the minute I arrived I just loved it.

Here are some key factors that contribute towards doing well here.

    - You enjoy hot weather
    - You don't resent having to wear a tie!
    - You like spicy as fuck food
    - You try to learn the language, you don't laugh it off as gobbldygook not worth knowing...
    - You don't bow and scrape, and equally....
    - You don't act like a fucking latter day colonialist!
    - You're young and single
    - You haven't burnt any bridges back home

There's more stuff, of course. What I've just done is list my attitdude and outlook. I do well here, but I can definately see why people come, get seduced and then get mad and fuck it off.

I don't plan on being here forever, which also helps keep me sane!
I'm everywhere you've never been and better than I've ever been

    Mate:

    You enjoy hot weather

    Fucking hate it.

    - You don't resent having to wear a tie!

    Don't have to anymore.

    - You like spicy as fuck food

Once a month (although have no problem with spicy food I like to mix it up).

    - You try to learn the language, you don't laugh it off as gobbldygook not worth knowing...

Can't speak a fucking word and laugh it off as a chicken language than actually lowers your IQ.

    - You don't bow and scrape, and equally....

    Have my moments.

    - You don't act like a fucking latter day colonialist!

    G&T please maid!!!

    - You're young and single

    Nah not really either anymore.

    - You haven't burnt any bridges back home

Fucking loads of them.....shit if they hadn't caught me in time that big one to Wales would be a smoldering heap of melted metal.

Just goes to show there ain't no 'right' person for Thailand etc.

Me? I am enrolling in grad school next fall, do a semester in residence and do the rest of the time online, got some great unis back in the states. Can even get loans from the government to pay for my studies and living expenses. I am a lot more intelligent this time around, looking for something in engineering or computers.
I believe BkkPost research some 4-5 years ago had the average Thai IQ leap a full 2 points, from 89 to 91. Seems it gave some quarters sommat to crow about.

I find it easy to live here because I am extremely good looking and excellent in bed. This means I have a steady stream of free vag and I spend the rest of my time getting wasted.

Re: Burn-out and getting trapped here

some good ideas on here, so
but also some stuff that looks like it has been taken straight from the pages of "The Mamasan Guide: 101 things to tell the girls to stop them coming to their senses and going back to the farm". But hey splitting the wheat from the chaff is an easy enough process

People who are struggling to cope with 'burn out' (if such a thing genuinely exists) probably couldn't hack it in their home country either.
I don't see it that way.
In my country, I know very well how things work and what is expected to get on, and I'm not held back by the second class rights of being an expat non-citizen. My choice to be here though, for now.

Being here can feel like living in a school, in that the people seem to be small, immature, bitchy, unreliable, materialistic, insincere, and insist that everything must be fun or they will do their upmost to avoid it.

Plus it gets on my tits when these people act shocked when I eat chillis. For f ing sake chillis aren't Thai, my ancestors (mothers side, Portuguese) brought them here. And you know when you phone a Thai office and you hear "there is a farang on the phone asking about...."referring to me like I'm a type of animal. Why?

Things do wear me down that never would in the US. Little things but issues to me.

a lot better than in the UK with all the miserable (albeit well educated) fuckwits
So whose fault is it that you spent your time what that kind of person? Seems drastic to run 10,000 kms to an asian land where the people are afraid to or don't know how speak their mind and show their feelings and where it feels like they are never quite fully awake.

^Exactly. If there's fault to be assigned, it's yours.
