Tesco Lotus Visa Card - Anyone??

Went for the first time to the local Tesco's yesterday. Asked for a customer card. None of the clerks spoke English, but one handed me an application form... Arrived home, oops, that's a Visa Card application they gave me! So, what's the deal?? Can a foreigner apply? (Form is in both, Thai and English. Some parts only in Thai, though.)

So, do they accept applications from poorly paid expats, earning about 30,000 baht?

And what are the advantages? Where can I use this card? Only at Tesco's in this town??

Also, is there a credit line, or is it just another one of those 'useless' debit cards? (I'm asking cause there isn't any info on the application form.)

They will tell you that you are welcome to apply, they will help you submit your application, they will most probably tell you that you meet all the criteria to get a gold card with a decent credit limit.

Then they will come back and tell you that you need to apply in your wife's name, they will tell you if you aren't married or your wife doesn't meet their criteria that they are very sorry!
Excuse me for not taking this seriously .....

I've got a Visa card from Kasikorn so I can't see why you couldn't get a Tesco's card.

Hmm....I need a new pencil sharpener, might just go and apply for one myself.

Yuo can apply but with 30000 Bht/month you won't get one. (according to the application form you need 50000 Bht/month).

You can use it everywhere, as this is a Visa Card. Any place that accepts Visa cards will accept this one.

Its hard unless they can see direct deposit of money into a bank account. Should be in the range of 50,000 as stated before. Why not try, the worst that can happen is rejection. Why dont you get a Tesco card thats not tied to Visa or Master?
They do have their own card as well.

Why would you want one that badly, as someone else asked? You'd have to pay interet if you don't pay it off right away. Why not save up the cash for big ticket items or get them second hand?

no you need proven earnings of 50k unless you know someone at tescos who is important. Airsaia demands 80k a month! They dont want low paid fly by night scumbags (ie farang teachers!)

Forget it. If you are here earning 30k and want to take it easy why should they give you a credit card? what proof do they have that you really live here. are you going to go to Japan next month and leave us hanging after you maxed out your card? they don't know. They've been stiffed before. get a real job and earn 50k or more. if you live and are established here (and you're for real) there is no reason why you should be earning 30k per month, unless you're just some agency farang, in which case, of course they won't give you one.
    Just forget about the credit.

Musta, sometimes a credit card can be a necessity. An example would be the birth of a child or something. You need something important for the kid and dont have money.
There can be circumstances where you need one on 30. Dont forget the Thai's qualify on 15.
