    Food you make

Just wondering what kind of food you make at home. I'm not in the city so sometimes its hard for me to get ingredients other than those used in Thai food. I often make spaghetti with meat sauce or simple sandwiches when I want something western to satisfy me. Sometimes Thai food just gets old. Got any good ides for foods that can be made at home? What do you (or your wife)make?

Don't know what you've got in the way of cooking facilities. Have you got a grill oven and a microwave?

    This is brilliant.

Get a great big potato from the supermarket.
    Small tub of soured cream
A tin of that chopped pork or corn beef
    An onion
    Grated cheese
    Small green pepper (capsicum)

    Microwave the potato as normal
Let it cool down a little and slice it in half lengthways.
Scoop out the potato and add it to a bowl with the chopped onion, chopped green pepper, corned pork and a few good dollops of soured cream so the stuff gels into a mixture of sorts. Stir quite vigorously and get the lumps out of the potato

Put the mixture back into the two potato skin halves and sprinkle on some grated cheese Then grill in your grill oven to get rid of that 'microwave baked potato taste until the cheese is melted and golden brown.

I tell you. This is delicious.
The worst job in Thailand must be the man who has to sit down with a blue marker pen and mark a number two on the two-baht coins to stop people thinking they are one-baht coins.

When I was in America a guy told me to 'have a nice day' but I didn't, so I sued him

i've moved flat now and don't have a kitchen  .

however, when i did, i made a mean roast dinner, pizza from scratch, all manner of pasta creations, lots of fresh steamed seafood, the odd thai dish and other culinary delights.

cooking rocks,. especially if you get liquored up while doing it.

    :chug:

The potato sounds. Don't have an oven or micro. I can get the potato but I have to go to BKK for the sour cream, beef and grated cheese. I probably could grill the potato or cook it in a covered pot. I'll have to play around a bit.

As for the pizza that would be great but I don't have an oven. is pizza dough easy to make? For some reason anything that is made with flour has been hard for me to deal with.

    Added after 3 minutes:

Does anyone know how to make tortillas? are they easy to make?

    Added after 5 minutes:

I'd like to make the chips for salsa but I'd also like to make some soft tortillas for tacos or sandwiches.

yeah pizza doughs real easy. flour, yeast, water, milk, salt and pepper. give it a good kneading, leave it in a covered bowl, room temperature for about an hour, whilst you have a mid cook cocktail. take it out, knead a little more then shape round and flat- simple.

^and if proves difficult to get a nice round shape, then who cares if it's round, oval, rectangular or square. I'm sure a hexagon-shaped pizza would taste just as good as a round one

I love doing greek potatoes - plain sliced potatoes (in a boat-like shape), loads of oil, salt, basil and oregano. Serve with tzatziki and a good steak, tomatoes soaked in virgin olive oil and sprinkled with a bit of salt, and a rucola/cucumber/pumpkin seed salat with balsamico/olive oil dressing... yum yum

^yup, but, I mean, if you've had a bit too many of those 'mid cook cocktail's' it might prove a bit difficult to get a decent nice, round shape; but no need to Just enjoy one more cocktail and make whatever shape suits you
