I'm going to be moving from an apartment to a townhouse soon. So, for the first time since I moved to Thailand, I will have to get my own internet connection. Does anybody have any recommendations?

And I thought that it was just a car!
Definitely don't even consider TOT. I use them at the moment and I'm currently wondering which is the best service out there so that I can change over because the 'service' provided by TOT is just appalling.
The Wife told me today that Maxnet are currently offering a 2.0 connection for approximately 600B per month.

Try out Maxnet.
Avoid True, or ToT like the plague.
Anybody know about Loxinfo?

It will depend on what service is available in your village. Where I live my only choice is TOT and I have been waiting a year for DSL. They have it here but it's full. The people that I have talked to that could get True liked it.
True is oversupplied push TOT to give you a line. They should. All providers are oversubscribed, and its up to you and your provider and their technicians. My speed was shit until I got a nice guy in here.
True are OK from my personal experience. They do a 4mb / 500kb line for 2200 a month (or that's what it was when I got it - could have gone down by now) and I believe they have some offer for a 2mb / 500kb line with 51 TV channels too for something like 900 baht a month (I quickly read the promotion in a True centre in a shopping mall so not too sure of details).
Buddybroadband were fine until they started blocking bittorrent trackers. If you don't use a bittorrent client then they are probably OK but if you do then obviously not.
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.
Recommendations only are not enough Qwerty2. You should have a look at what providers can service your townhouse.
WWW-access and download access seem to be two complete different things. My www-access is in general slow but my (bittorrent) download access is good/very good. As my internet use is more balanced towards bittorrent downloading, I'm happy with my provider.
I'm on a TOT 2048/512 connection in Phetchaburi.
Good luck in making your choice.

Is Maxnet new? I never heard of it before, but it would be nice to see some competition to True.
As with ANY provider, ii all depends on the telephone lines, which are all owned by TOT....and thats what makes internet crap.

I just had True DSL installed. If you also buy the TV package then they discount the internet to this price. True always trys to get you buy a TV package and/or their True Move mobile phone SIM in addition. The 2Mb speed isn't even available if you don't get a second service. I didn't bite so I pay almost 1,200 /month for 2.5Mb plus 107 /month for the phone line. The initial install cost is 2,800. That seems excessive being that my house has had True phone service in the past and everything is still in place so install consists of flipping a switch. Maybe some of it goes to TOT who they rent the telephone lines from, this is the case even if your phone bill comes from True.
Don't call mobile phones from your True phone line, it's seriously expensive. You can save a bit by calling local land line numbers (02 prefix in Bangkok).

My DSL service from True is pretty good.

Ah, so the internet is discounted to 900 baht if you subscribe to the TV service - you don't get both services for that price...I suppose it did sound rather too good a deal. Thanks for the clarification. I've never used the True line for phone calls so I don't know what the costs are like.
