Opening a bank account in Bangkok
Hi Folks..
hopefully this post is in the right section...
I have to open an account in Bangkok on Monday. Any suggestions
about which bank I should head for?
Are some better than others and should be avoided like the plague or are they all much of a muchness.
Stuff like- withdrawal fees, internet banking.. accessibility
Ta

since when? I didn't have one for the first bank account I opened, didn't need to show one for the second one either, it's just if you really want that 0.0000 something ridicules low percentage of interest over yer cash, than show a WP

Re: Opening a bank account in Bangkok
I've never had to show a work permit either and I've had a few different bank accounts ('cos I'm a fussy bugger). I'd recommend the Siam Commercial Bank.
Avoid Kasikorn and Krung Thai at all costs, the customer service at those places is appalling.

Re: Opening a bank account in Bangkok
I dont use Kasikorn, but I often pay bills there as the branch near my house if very organized. The banks vary branch to branch a lot.

My 10 baht is with Bangkok Bank. Having a WP will get you the full monty (internet banking etc) but just with proof of address from Imi. you can get the basics; cheque book, ATM card etc.

Re: Opening a bank account in Bangkok
Bangkok Bank is pretty good. Good online information, e-banking (so I've heard) and almost as many branches as their are 7-11's

Re: Opening a bank account in Bangkok
I now use Siam Commercial Bank for all my transactions over the net, they have an excellent internet banking system and all in English can't speak high enough of them

Re: Opening a bank account in Bangkok
Worth checking with your school or employer if you have one, which bank they will pay into. I work in sales and when we first arrived and before I started work we opened a savings account just using our visas at Siam Commercial Bank, then when I got my WP went back and also got a Cheque or current account. When my wife started working at a school (reputable private one) they insisted they would only pay into Bangkok Bank as there are charges for transferring between banks so she had to open one there. So now we have 2 accounts!

Keep knocking on doors until you get the answer you want. Search the forum, this one has been covered a few times.

Re: Opening a bank account in Bangkok
Thanks for the tips guys
That is good advice about the one that my school banks
with. Fingers crossed it will either be Siam or Bangkok.
