Thinking of moving to Hua Hin...

anyone familiar with the hua hin area? ive only passed through about a year ago. would it be possible to find a condo with these specs:

    1) under 20,000

    2) adsl

    3) seaview

    4) western style, as in no built-in fake teak, etc., or plastic furniture, or wooden mattress.

cant stand bkk anymore. would be a long term (6-12 mos) rental.

I don't live there, but I like the place... at least you can get decent western food there (compared to Issan). Thought about moving there, too, but there seems to be a lot of farang dregs living there (a la Pattaya). One quick tip to staying alive in that town... don't get involved in property matters. Best of luck.

Coincidence though I was down there a couple of days ago, dossing on the beach,
Not to many Europeans about, but I know 3 who were not happy.
Pony rides along the waters edge, Pony has a crap while on the move, the shit floats out just as 3 girls were coming out of the sea, then fuck me a dog comes along and craps right on the beach in front of them.
Things like that do wonders for tourism.....

Re: Thinking of moving to Hua Hin...

I stayed there in October. Liked the nice relaxed pace of the city, and the night market is good - love those rotis!
The beach looked really crap in town by Sofitel, gave that a miss.
LOTS of condos for sale and rent, look like good value, on paper at least, although many are out of town, some inland in the hills, others by the beach.
    Sur votre bicyclette, mate.

Re: Thinking of moving to Hua Hin...

im craving a quieter place that still offers 1st world amenities. ive stayed in chumphon for a bit in the past and the vibe down there is nice enough but a bit too quiet for my taste + there arent many amenities to speak of unless youre into diving and that sort of stuff. id go for cha-am or even prachuap proper; just depends on the condo deals. basically, im looking for bang saen with a better beach and slightly more development.

Then you wouldn't like Thap Sakea, quiet and no farang. The waters clean; unlike Hua Hin and the natives friendly. Figure out what you like and go for it.

If you make it down there, keep us posted. I've thought of moving there myself, although the stories of horse and dog crap make me cautious.

same same me. Hua Hin was a nice spot about a decade ago - not paradise, but the kind of place I could see us living out our days in.

Now I'm not so sure - it seems the whole of Thailand's coastline is at risk of 'pattayation'. OK so further south in Prachuab is better, but how long will it be before it goes the same overdeveloped on the cheap way?

I'm thinking more of Chiang Rai, Chiang Khong, Lampang or Petchabun.

One major problem is that you have to assume that any adjoining land you don't own is gonna be built on and ****ed up.

In my experience, a 'better beach' and 'more development' is a contradiction in terms in Thailand.

    (and in most countries)

I much prefer Cha-am to Hua Hin, it's a nice place to kick back and enjoy life but if you need a bit of excitement once in a while HH is only 25 km down the road.

Yes Leeds, that's basically my thinking.
And I certainly can't afford to buy on that scale in the heavily touristed areas.

So far better to get somewhere off the tourist track, and drive 30 - 40k whenever 'Unseen' Thailand is wearing thin, and I'm in the mood for 'Seen, deflowered and now hawking it on a street corner' Thailand.
