Working Towards a Better Life
for Thailand Soi Cats & Dogs
lol exactly most farangs can spend 30K in a weekend in BKK. .
as far as the 30K it is def doable but u will lead an extremely simple life. I think alot of westerners move to Thailand because they love to travel and your not going to do much traveling on a 30K salary. .
I have a friend who is a Philippine english teacher and he makes 22K. . he lives but he is real frugal and doesnt travel much or go out much. .
plus what mvinci said. . it depends where u live. . i dont think u can live on 30K in phuket, BKK ect. . maybe in a more rural area it is possible. .
to be frank, ive found just the opposite to be true...
if you like tech stuff, enjoy staying at home- like wathing tv, or the video games, or computer- you will save a lot here.
but if you fancy social interaction that goods cant buy- then youre in for a hurting, because nightlife (however tame) is where the hidden costs are in cost-of-living here.
everyone i know who can save money here, has an indoor hobby of some sort. not that they are TOTAL inwards, but there is some technology or book -whatever- that they like OVER the incessant need to bond and go out.

Kerouac is cool in a book. quote]
sorry Franny, don't want to burst your bubble but Kerouac is an author - I think you might be trying to say 'On the road' is a good book. to that I would heartily agree as there is more than a bit of a Sean Cassidy in most of us on this forum![]()

Used to feel that way but I'm happy enough chilling by my condo's pool / in the park. Travel's normally a letdown - went to China and visited the Great Wall, Forbidden City etc. Not a patch on Thailand.
I guess we'll travel abroad again at some point though. A short trip Japan appeals.
Luckily for me and the missus, we're stay at home dullards. And happy that way!
Clubbing was alright when I was chasing poonani, absolutely no need for it now.
My mate Steve reckons my book shelves house one of BKK's better libraries![]()

Franny is a samart man...I don't go out much and drink rarely(conscious choice). worked all week, went out socializing and drinking last night. Spent more last night than in the previous 5 days combined...therein lies your cost of living.

We must take our actions to their logical conclusion...if the conclusion of any action means the end of the species...then that action must be viewed as antithetical to nature...and anyone performing that action must be considered insane...

Crikey. I've just moved to Thailand and already I am starting to see some kind of Expat demographic on this thread. Am I right in saying that anyone from the West who fancies coming to work in Thailand for a short period so they can travel the surrounds is considered a loser by, erm, other expats?
not at all. . i think most people first come here for their love of travel . .there is nothing wrong with that at all. .
u will find alot of people do stereotype expats especially older ones but really who cares what others think. . its your life to live. . enjoy Thailand and enjoy ur travels
How about people who use two periods..at the end of every sentence??..

Or two question marks??![]()
There are few problems in life that cannot be solved with toast.
One of them, however, is opening a can of corned beef with that stupid key. This cannot easily be done at the best of times, and toast is of surprisingly little use in resolving the issue.
