Made my day
It's a common habit to knock LOS. I admit to doing it on occasion but sometimes credit where credits due. Yesterday I took my pickup in for its first 5000k service at the main agent in town. They serviced it (basically only an oil change I know), took care of a few minor niggles, cleaned it inside and out and gave me a brand new demo car for the day. Come bill time I was relieved of the grand total of 370baht. I gave the mechanic 200 baht and a pack of Marlboro Red as a tip and he Wai'd me like I was royalty. I appreciate it's not much of a story but it made my day.

Basically 200 baht is chump change in my pocket and is most probably more than his daily salary.

I had my Suzuki motorbike completely taken apart and put back together-due to sitting absolutely idle for 9 months.
It took them about 4 hours and I paid 29 baht.
It was under warranty, but still.
And my wife gave them 100 baht.
Dumb bitch.

That's the point. I don't. It's just I can't resist when the 7-11 bird asks me if I want a lighter when I'm buying my M-150.

Yeah, but on the other hand you've got the monkey-boys down at my local Honda shop who can't fix a goddamn thing. Hell, I've got to watch them like a hawk just to make sure they don't fuck-up an oil change.
A buddy of mine had his bike completely taken apart - after being assured "yeah OK, we fix" - only to find out the jackasses couldn't fix his problem, and didn't even know how to put his bike back together again. This from an "authorized Honda dealer."
Eventually he had to box it up and send it on a songtheuw to Pattaya.
Bottom line: Getting things done properly in Thailand can be a real pain in the ass.

Go with Suzuki then I say.
I watched the guy for about 3 hours before heading to lunch. Amazing stuff.
But he probably could have done it half-cut in any dusty old shop.
Honda should do something about their hiring.
Half the friggin Thai guys in Isaan probably know how to break a bike apart and put it back together.

I suspect there's a difference between a local sub-distributor "Honda dealer" and the big outfits in the bigger cities like Pataya, Chiang Mai, etc. I always take mine to the big dealer in Chiang Mai where I bought the CBR150R (a model practically unknown by mechanics in the boondocks). No problem (except at the first warranty claim, they thought I was a rich farang who had two pickups and another bike to play with, until boyfriend explained it in Northern dialect, and suddenly a new battery appeared).
I don't watch mechanics in dealers' shops. I used to go to shops that advertised "$40 per hour if you leave us alone, $60 if you watch, and $100 an hour if you give us advice on how to do our job."

And here I was quibling (sp) over a 71 baht 'tip'
But it was easy to accept as I've got my bike stored there for free anytime I'm out of town-in a secure area and under my own lock and key(s).
Now that's customer service.
