This is concerning setting up a new Bangkok account for new teachers or anyone else. When they get their bankbook, they will also be issued a new ATM card with the account.
Please advise them to instruct to person who is setting up the account to issue one of the older standard ATM cards. The older ones will work with all banks in Thailand. The new one has a computer chip in the lower center part of the card, this one will work only in Bangkok Bank ATM's.

I tried several ATM's along ladproa this afternoon. When i arrived at the Mall Bangkapi, their branch was open. So, I tested the card out there in their ATM machine and it worked. Then went over to the left and tried the Green one (forgot the name) and Siam, both of those rejected the card half way though the the transaction.
I then went into Bangkok Bank and told the lady, this card is not working for other banks. She said, it is a new security feature to protect you and your card. I asked her about how to get it to work at a non Bangkok Bank ATM due to an emergency, and her response was basically. You can't use it at other Bank, you can open an account at another bank if you like.

I suggest patience a bit. BKK Bank customers will not accept this security measure. My guess is that in a few months your shiny new, but somewhat useless, atm card will begin to work at all newer atm machines.
This is probably some internal row and the Bangkok Bank threatened to do this at the finance ministry conference or something similar.

I would say it was a security issue suggested by a high ranking Bkk bank boss ,and nobody had the balls to tell him it was stupid.
My next door neighbours have challenged me to a water fight , so I am just writing this while I am waiting for the kettle to boil .
I never had a problem getting a credit card at bangkok bank. Just had to complete the form in Thai.
Has that changed?

Depends on the bank and often on your Visa statusSome are harder/easier/stricter than others.
So while for some it can be as easy for that....it's not always the case!!!
