Not interested in over-priced gizmos. 1000 Baht phone, txt and alarm will do me.
This is it... The apocalypse.
You can try looking at the Chinese-made fake Samsung Galaxy phones. There are fake ones that have the Samsung name on it, as well as knock-offs that are made by a Chinese company named Sunsamg. They cost a lot less than the original.
I bought a Chinese-made fake Blackberry that works just like the real thing, but costs a fraction of the price of the real thing.

You should know full well that anything besides iPhone doesn't cut it with the ladies in Thailand. This is one of those investments that really pays off in the long run (until the next version comes out).
May I suggest to wait a few months for iPhone 5 as you will be a star of the village.

I have a blackberry that cost me ThB 9,900
It takes photos. Whoopy-doo I've taken two since I bought it.
It's a dumbphone.
The phone comes with a helpful "predictor" which determines whether you really mean what you are typing or not, and half-way through typing a word it changes the beginning. Until I switched the stupid function off most of my text messages were turned into garbled nonsense.
It now works fine. It makes and receives calls and text messages.
---Update---
What you really need is the iPhone 4
Migrated
I know someone who has the Samsung Galaxy.
She claims it is slow. Compared with what I am not sure, but it has been declared "slow"
Apparently Blackberry is far better, especially my one because it is red.
Get out yer kayak and paddle down to MBK. Barter with natives en route. Once into the Bangkok khlongs, head for MBK. Buy a used HTC Wildfire for 4K Baht or less. Great camera, and the non-S version, which is what you will be getting, has an actual physical button for to press take a picture.![]()
