    Welcome james.

As far as I can see around here, no difference at all. Other areas of the world insist on CELTA, but even at that I've heard of tefl/tesol plus experience being acceptable.

Differences would be formulaic on the approach to teaching language. Having learned and taught several languages, I don't think there really is a one-size-fits-all method.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Perhaps you could get a job as a prompt in the stage version of 'The Beano'

Translation: "So, which is better? Do schools take a teacher with a TEFL over a teacher who has a TESOL?"

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
Teaching Language to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

The methodology to any good TEFL program should be very close to a TESOL program. Unless you are planning on teaching in your home country, the TEFL program (provided it's a good one) will get you just as many jobs as a TESOL program.

Even having said that, I know many people with a TEFL who teach in their home countries now.

It's not quite 6 - 1, half a dozen to the other...but it's so close as to not be really important.

    Re: tefl vs tesol??

TEFL Int run a TESOL course. I believe it's named TESOL, not TEFL, because they used to be a franchise of Trinity TESOL. TEFL is a more generic name. You say TESOL, I say TEFL, you sat tomayto, I say tomarto etc...

    pretty much no...

not worth worrying about at the basic level.

"so please show no pity as we come up from the ground, and please remember as you kill us and cut us down that time will not wash clean the bloody face of history, and someone will breathe here again and they will hate you for what you leave." m.g.

James, once you start working over here you'll realise your thinking far too much.
