First day back at school and they asked every teacher to go to the Hospital and get a flu check to make sure nobody had swine flu, specially those who went abraod during the 2 month break. Fine, no biggie. Went to the local hospital. Sat down. They took my blood pressure. 171/111. I almost dropped dead when I saw that. My dad and grandpa had blood pressure issues. My dad died of heart disease and my grandpa had open heart quadruple bypass. Those mostly related to lifestyle.
Anyway, Dr. Says to go back and do again. This time it read 197/120. I was speechless.
I went back home, bought an automatic BP machine. Sure enough, no "white coat syndrome" my bp was 177/115. Fuck me senseless.
I calm myself down. I think about this. I am a bp expert since I grew up taking my dad's. I thought to myself "OK. I have been at home for the last 2 months playing xbox and eating ice cream, oreos and dunkin donuts for a month and a half straight. Let me calm down and stop this nonsense". No more junk food. Lots of water. Soup and vegetables for dinner. At least 20 minutes of exercise everyday. If I don't walk, I do at home on the exercise machine.
In 1 week my blood pressure went from 177/115 to this morning at 136/89. Absolutely incredible. I was pissing like a race horse. My body let go of excess water and sodium.
It goes to show you if you sit on your ass and live a sedentary lifestyle you could very well be snacking yourself to a quadruple bypass, or worse. Death.
How old are you? And what is considered normal blood pressure? Heart disease runs in my family, too.
how many kilo u ?
Once is great.
Twice is too much.
I also have hypertension and if you can get the numbers, especially diastolic, down a bit more with lifestyle changes then great but otherwise I would recommend an ACE inhibitor medication like Enapril here in Thailand. 10-20mg per day. Self-medicate and monitor your BP.
You don't need daily aspirin. That is for someone with major risk factors for cardiac disease or who has already had a cardiac episode.
I hope you don't smoke.

Follow the three Rís: Respect for self Respect for others and Responsibility for all your actions.
I think the monitor is a good idea. Self monitoring is effective in reducing blood pressure.
Try to your very best not to start any medications.
How much weight are you carrying by the way?
Don't get down in the mud with pigs. You just get dirty and the pig likes it.
Weight is important but body composition is more telling. Lean muscle mass is heavy, heavier than adipose (fat) and it elevates your resting metabolism aka basal metabolic rate BMR. Might get into the doc and get a fasting lipids panel and blood glucose check to be sure your other numbers are OK too.
Diabetes is the killer in my family and I smoked like a chimney for the better part of 20 years. Add hypertension and 20 kilos over weight to the mix and it ain't no joke.

I don't smoke, I don't drink. I weigh about 57 kilos.
As I said, as soon as I stopped eating that shit and a week of nothing but pissing every 10 minutes, it has taken only about 6 days to return to almost normal. I don't need to be on meds for sure.
A normal bp is 120/80 to 140/90. If the Dyastolic goes to 99, it means a lifestyle/diet problem. If it is constantly above 100 dyastolic you need to go to a hospital for further tests. It could be something like a potassium deficiency, high sodium or as serious as a heart condition. Obviously my case was one of lifestyle of doing absolutely nothing while overloding on sugars, sodiums, and hydrogenated artificial shit for 2 months. As soon as I cut it out my bp pressure plummeted. I should keep monitoring twice a day for the next month.
I should also add that since I cut out all that poison and started moving for at least 20 min daily, I feel like I can breath easier and I am really peppy now the whole day. I can also see my veins pumped with blood down my arm. Also my heart rate decreased to 60 beats when resting from 77 when resting.
Junk food is no joke man. If I hadn't checked God knows what would have happened.

yeah, cut out the ice cream and meat too, I watched a documentary about plant diets the other week, definitely the way forward, i'm gonna try and just eat meat on weekends from now on, helps you lose weight and can prevent cancers. It's the processed meat you have to avoid, those sausages in 7 eleven, that shit will kill you. You need to get on statins, but obviously change your lifestyle a bit, excercise can be good fun once you get into it can be addictive, and you see results pretty quickly, that's why they have so many mirrors in gyms.

Don't know about you, but I would tend to trust American doctors - unless of course that Wiki article was bullshit. Anyone know? Because the last time I checked my bp (several years ago), I was 120/80.
I am an american, and trust me 120/80 is perfect bp. I've been dealing with bp shit since I was in primary school. Of course, in thailand you'll see adults with 96/65 bp. That's even better.
I don't think any doctor in his right mind would consider you pre hypertensive just because your bp went up 1 millimiter of mercury. You can fart while the machine is taking it and have it rise more than that.

140/90 is high. The diastolic cutoff is 89.
^Maybe a tad.
