All of the above is very true, and the companies that bring you in on a business visa have to get new visas within 90 days as they are only good for 90 days at a time. I done a runner after 9 days (business visa) nobody knew what I was doing they though I was being transferred to Jeddah. Anyway the teachers that were hired at the same time as me still had not been paid by November 09 and this was two months after I left.

It takes so long to get sorted that quite a lot of Thailand based applicants fly back to Thailand - reckoning that in two months the saving in the cost of living between the UK and Thailand will be more than the air fares.
A few companies will even pay you a salary while you wait for the paperwork to be sorted.
What happens if you have dual nationality? Could you get someone to apply for you with one passport in your home country? (Legalities and rights & wrongs of doing that aside.)
As far as I know you have to do it in person.
You have to be there to take the medical of course, but the waiting game can be done from far away.
Plenty of people do the medical and hand everything off to their company, piss off back to Thailand (fed-ex their passport back to home-country) and wait in Thai while it gets processed.
When it's done the company / or helpful party fed-ex's your passport with new visa to Thailand and you book a flight.

I read on one of the other websites that starting September 2010 Saudi will only be employing teachers who have an MA or PhD. On the site they also said that anybody who is employed there now with a BA will not have a job for the start of the new semester in September. Anybody hear anything?
...I don't believe it for a minute....certain government universities and institutes (maybe), but the private places will continue to recruit from the world's esl sewers...and continue to offer the same shoddy "packages" to their recruits...
...the place I worked at listed an MA as a requirement when I first started there many years ago...of the 35 teachers, maybe 6 of us had MAs...the rest had BAs...it was the same across town at King Saud University (Riyadh), where the pay was far less generous...
sounds like good money
Do you think that they will pay the same money for the MA as they were paying for the BA? It will be worth watching some other sites to see what money is being offered for the MA.
That MA requirement has become essential for good money in the UAE now.
But I guess having survived previous Tours of Duty will always be a more important factor in Saudi.
