The rest of us should question whether we are of that select few or not, and reconsider our careers 2) that some have more innate capacity for teaching than others, and will find it much easier to develop into a great one than the rest, putting in the same amount of work.

Nothing innate about it. It's all in one's acculturation. But when your parents were something/anything there certainly is a tendency to be subject to modeling and follow them round like a duckling.

In a way, JD contradicts the first connotation of the phrase when he says "both my parents were teachers". They then made him a teacher-type by instilling in him certain values and modelling certain behavior. If his mother had birthed and then abandoned him, would she have already embedded these qualities into his person?

They didn't make me a teacher, they made it easy.

That's the nature/nature argument. Not enough pages here on ajarn to cover that one.
All I'm saying is that just like any other ability in life, to some it has to be taught while others seem natural with it. I like to use drummers as an example: Meter is an ability all drummers have to have. If you don't have a sense of rhythm dancing and drumming will be an up-hill battle. Just as you mentioned with Beckham and Henry.

It'd be a case of having her spreadeagled face down on the bed trying to decide whether to go for the pink or the brown (if you know what I mean) and humming "Making Your Mind Up"

I continue to be impressed with Mr. Biggs as a boss and a teacher and, well, a guy...Today he handed around a typed up page describing something he was thinking of instituting in children's classes, simple questions and answers which add up week after week...he gave it to a bunch of teachers, described his idea, and said "here, when you get a chance, take a look at this and tell me if it sounds good or if it's total crap"...not an amazing thing in itself, but actually exeptional when it comes to thai schools. Every week he takes a minute to ask me how my class went and actually pays attention to what I say. That may be the most impressive thing about the guy- he's very attentive and in control, no matter how many people are engaging him, and he appears to know a large percentage of the Thais names who show up there...Maybe he has a photographic memory. It just seems easy.
Anyway, today's class went well. He was next door again, loud as ever. Then there was a kid's class on the other side which sometimes meant quite a din in my classroom. My students, however, are just now feeling confident enough to raise their voices a bit when they realize nobody's gonna be able to hear them.

Re: A Bigg Intimidation
How annoying is this. I just got a call from Bangkok Bank. Apparently one of my paychecks from ABA is missing a signature. Which means I have to slog down to Paragon, bring the check back to Channel 3, get it signed and then back to the bank...ugg. All this and I'm got zits coming out all over my face like a teenager.
I've never had an ounce of fun dealing with banking in my entire life.
