As I said I have to have it on for the kids. 1st grade the kids are in school and mom is in Europe for 17 days. The phone rings in class. " You daughter fell off a slide and her lower tooth went though her chin, can you come get her?"

Fuck yes I can I was there in 10 minutes, at the doctors in 20 more. She was micro stitched and back in school within an hour and a half.

What if I had had no phone?

Well AO, if she was back in school in an hour and a half, it was not really a life threatening situation, was it?

JB she had a tooth stuck through her chin skin. It was not life threatening no, but it did bleed a lot, and she was crying. It took 3 inner stitches and 4 little outer stitches to close it.

What would you have done. It occured at 10am and she gets out of school at 3:30. I just happen to work 3 kilometers from their school. And our uni has a medical school, so it was done fast.

Whe wanted to go back so I took her back. I am sure not a Thai parent one would have, as they were shocked when she showed back up with her chin bandaged.

Nice work by the doctors at our uni. No scar at all after only 2 years.

I always turn off my phone before I go in class. I don't see how that makes me self righteous as you suggest.

I guess people just have different priorities. Mine is to focus on what I'm getting paid to do in class, and have the students focussing, as far as possible, on what they are there to do too.

If your desk or locker has a lock, why not leave it in there and check your messages later?

i don't own a cell phone and usually don't answer the telephone at home .. call me crazy, or maybe, just maybe, the whole species is completely nuts and i am the sane one.
