I was contacted about this as well. But it sounds like a language centre that's run through the uni, so I didn't bother applying. Anyway, here's the email that was sent to me:
Quote:
The Ramkhamhaeng University
Institute of Languages is currently seeking two- hundred fifty
conversation English teachers of all nationalities for elementary and
high school positions in the province of Nonthaburi. Our start date is
November1, 2005 and our contract will last for one year. Pay will
bethirty to forty thousand baht a month. Work permit and Visa
assistance will be provided by the respective school applicants are
placed in within Nonthaburi. Interviews will be held on the Bangkok
campus of the university. Please email your resume and cover letter to
Manuel Montes atmam317@nyu.edu Note: 1) Applicants must be able to
provide an original diploma, original transcripts, and passport. Any
applicants without any of these should not apply. 2) We are not
affiliated with any agencies. Any applicants who are approached by
individuals claiming affiliation with our institution would be
ill-advised to pay any monies to said agencies. We have had a
wonderful turnout of applicants from all over the world so far and
look forward to seeing many more.

I don't wish you to take this the wrong way Storekeeper, but they must have been dancing in the streets of Manila when that email was sent out. I'd be well interested to know what final % of the 250 are fl...filipinos.

He has been promised 42k for the duration.
I can't honestly imagine a school which has never had any foreign staff working for it suddenly having to get a WP being able to do it without any stress.
Wouldn't it be better to get one person to organise all of them for the respective schools. I can already imagine the number of new threads in the paperwork section about WP and visa's.
Maybe somebody should start one now just for this project and keep it as a sticky cause I am sure that a lot of those 250 teachers are not going to get their permits very quickly.

You would think that it being a govy run operation, they wouldn't need to do a visa run...

^ Depends what you class as a Visa run, they'll still need to initially run to get a Visa unless they've come in on a Non-imm B, or a proper tourist Visa (and even then some schools aren't aware that they can be changed).

42k. in a government institution. wait till i show them this at work tomorrow. they're still quoting a 3 year old memo from the ed. dep't. that says the maximum to be paid to a farang teacher in a gov't school is 30k.
and what about the rajabhat teachers on 18k plus 8k housing allowance?
fuck me. tit. and sometimes it is a fucking joke. fuck it.
i think i'll buy a degree, a fake gofuckaman passport and apply.
in no way directed at the genuinely qualified applicants. just from what we read, if you have your resume in a site, you get a job. native speaker or not. fuck me.
this country really does piss me off. as far as double standards are concerned anyway. 6 years experience. fully legit. native speaker. and fucking f#######os
can "start" on 30k. again. fuck me. just fuck it.

Busloads of us went to Laos on Wednesday & Thursday of last week & I believe that virtually all got their visa's by Saturday. All had to get non imm B's.
I'm being paid 40k per month as I have a BA, but no experience.
The contract is for 11 months with March & April being holiday months so we get a stipend only for these 2 months, however we are free to work elsewhere during those 2 months.
I think maybe 3/5'ths of the accepted were Filipino's & maybe another 50 were also non-native English speakers as well ((from various countries)mostly without a degree).
The Institute of Languages is a formal part of the Uni, not separate in any way.
I believe the contract is renewable, but who really knows in a years time.

So what happens now Dirk, are you all bussed out indiscriminately to various schools in the Nonthaburi area?

We were carefully assigned schools according to some system, everyone should of gone to their school today. But I think there are still quite a few schools that need teachers. They have a back up list of teachers in case people pull out at any stage. I guess we're expected to start teaching tomorrow, even though I have no idea what level classes I will have tomorrow.

So we've got 250 teachers (most without degrees) working for a government that is making it harder and harder for other teachers to get a work permit and a teacher's licence without a degree.
Now here's one story you won't be seeing in the Bangkok Post education supplement, especially now they've fallen out with ajarn.com....eeeeeek.......I've said too much already.
This story's got the legs of a giraffe, but I'm waiting for a few more eye-witness accounts before I hoist it onto the ajarn homepage.
Does anyone fancy the job as 'grass'?

There can't be that many schools in Nonthaburi surely

No Phillip "grass" should make you happy. Reading this I am not at all happy, its a frigging mess.
I will enjoy seeing the eventual outcome though. As well as the hiccups along the way.

Something seems wrong with the math- it's an ELEVEN month contract, but you're NOT paid for 2 months.... help me out, someone....
hmmm.
"Steven"
Added after 43 seconds:
P.S. I'm not surprised that Bangkok Post wouldn't survive contact with real teachers on the ground here- too much reality for them, I'd imagine.
