Nonthaburi Project
Did any of you apply to work for the Reamkampaeng Uni's 250 teacher project for Nonthatburi.
According to my friend who starts today - Taksin has decided to get foreign teachers into every province so he started with NBuri and gave them a load of cash which they then gave to Raemkapaeng Uni who then sourced the teachers.
My mate said that in a class of 36 he was the only one to be accpeted on for having the correct paper work. The rest of them were accepted anyway.
Apparantly today they are all off up to Laos to get visas.
From the sounds of things this is another badly organised fuck up. He mentioned "teachers" who were broke being there and people who wanted to stay in the country.
He is being paid 42k for this !!!!!!!!!.
Anybody else know about it?

Yeah have heard about it and been contacted about it.
I don't think it was through Ramkamheng per se, just the offices there were used??? Or at least that's what I was told by the recruiter blokie?

Please keep us informed. This is going to be magic!
The vision of 250 teachers all queuing outside the Laos embassy fingering rosary beads and just hoping the Kommandant got up in a decent mood almost brings tears to my eyes.

Going by recent reports no, but if they've got the 'government' behind them then they might be okay.
And it's Thai Visas from Laos I think.

And I would think the other way as well KK however I did mean what you said.
From the sounds of things the calibre of teachers is very high teachers complaining that they didn't have the money to spend on the visa for Laos and the Thai visa and a hotel room.

My mate said that they accepted him with his certificates but everybody else was rejected by a padentic American interviewer. However they were then all accepted anyway by some Thai person.
Maybe if you work for the government you don't need to be qualified in anyway.

I too was accepted & it's been something of a trial, to put it mildly.
The majority of the teachers were not native English speakers, being from all over Europe & heaps of Filipino's. This is a trial project, as I understand it, if it works they will do it elsewhere as well.
It is being run by Ramkhanhaeng Uni by their Institute of Languages as Nonthanburi is in their area.
One good thing about it is we're all being employed by the Uni, not the school, & thus it's the Uni who has the final say in firing us if needed. & also the Uni is telling the schools that we will be teaching the way the Uni has shown us, not the way Thai schools want us too. However how it works out may of course be quite different.

10 month project. It that right?
Are you on your way to Laos today?
Did they get all the contracts ready before 9am this morning?
Have you got a WP yet?
If you don't mind me asking what salary did you get? I read the bit of paper that said between 30-40k but my mate was give 42k.

I applaud your honesty Dirk in standing up and being counted. I think a few of the more cynical members of this board (and that certainly includes me) would like to know how this project pans out. I wish you good luck anyway.
My first question is - did they manage to recruit 250 teachers!?

What are the prospects of employment after the contract is over?

So that's a good start then Squirrel. You have farang admin guy and Thai staff that probably hate each other already

This is delicious, please keep us updated Dirk.
Squirrel, has your mate been promised 42k per month for the duration of his contract? Not too bad if so, I thought the govt might be stingier than that.
Dirk, please let us know what you and others on this project end up getting paid. Enjoy the adventure, mate. :chug:
