I was quite happy with lessons at Baan Passa Thai on Sukhumvit at about soi 2 near the freeway overpass and just past a Starbucks iirc. Been a year since I was there and I've just emailed my friend for their contact info as I'm interested in starting back up myself. Will update here when I get their phone # / address.

I am taking classes at UTL (unity language center) course is pretty good IMHO. It is 4 hrs a day 5 days a week if you go in the morning, 3 hrs a day for the afternoon classes. It is 7,000 or 6,000 baht/20 day module respectively. They have a web site in English...http://www.utl-school.com/english/home.php . It is located near Sukhumvit Soi 12 in the Times Square Building.

Where: AUA on Ratchadamri, 5 min walk from Ratchadamri BTS.
Hours/Week: For me, 25-30 hours per week but it is completely flexible. There are classes every hour from 7am to 8pm M-Th, 7am to 5pm F, and 9am to 4pm Sat. Closed Sun. You can go any hours you want.
Cost: 102 baht/hour for Level 1 (-3 for every level you move up), 12% off if you buy 200 hours at a time, plus 50 free hours if you attend 200 hours in 8 weeks. I've been getting every one of these discounts and so it's been only around 70/hour.

11 months ago before I came to BKK, I literally didn't know a word of Thai. After studying just 9 months at AUA (granted at 25+ hours/week), I can converse fluently (though speaking at an advanced, near-native level is still a VERY long way away).

The AUA method is fully immersive. You just listen, and listen, and listen, and this teaches you not only to understand but also to speak. It is incredibly fun and works wonders if you are willing to put in the time. I would never want to learn another language using any other method. I must say after reading baah gaofair's post (and blog) AUA sounds like a good show and I'm more than a little jealous. Big investment both $ and time wise but oh to be fluent. :twogirls:

Thanks for checking out my blog :cheers: If you are interested, AUA offers a free class, so you should check it out. The method may seem crazy at first, but it definitely works, and along the way you have a lot of fun and learn more than just the language since classes are always about something.

I work with a private tutor, and attend both AUA and structured Thai language classes in Bangkok. The AUA program is a big investment in time and money but works for some people. If you already have a decent background in the language it might be the best program. But you don't get the grammar and language structure, and the typical student is there a very long time before they are introduced to reading and writing.

As always, it depends on your language goals and available time.

Group classes seem to run about 100 baht an hour, with private lessons in the 250-500 baht range. Lots of schools near the BTS lines, especially Asoke and Silom.
