Re: I've Wondered What'd Happen If You Didn't Stand Up
I respect others.
If at an offcial function actually honoring the person or institution, sure I will stand.
This mindless robotic conforming to doctrine however can go take a hike.
There's enough time wasted in this life without losing more to dogma.

It not take much effort to stand. if people not stand it mean they want to be disrespect.

thats not about respect. thats about a mindset.
of course i stand for the anthem. but thats mostly out of fear of what the reprucussions would be if i didnt.
-i wouldnt recite any "pledges" in another country
-i dont recognize the higher-than-thou status of any individuals over another
i do it out of fear of what would happen. and that my friend is not real respect.
i respect thai folks and thus work my ass off teaching to help them get ahead. i dont respect any obiedient based rules.
...just like how i dont back home. aint got any respect for american nationalsm either, and i love my country. i think you can respect something and still be able to use your mind and evaluate things based on their merits, not just "cause everyone is doing it." but back home, at least i know the reprucussions of going against the grain. here, its a wild card best not played with.

Re: I've Wondered What'd Happen If You Didn't Stand Up
People makes too much fuss about the whole thing. I bet His Majesty himself wouldn't mind if people do not want to stand up at the cinema. I do because I want to show my respect to him but I wouldn't care if someone else don't.

and thats the ultimately most ironic thing about it, innit?
the guy seems like a real humanitarian, man of the people. a great leader. and i really mean that.
its just the publicly controlled rhetoric is much of the same thinking that starts wars, causes inequity, and basically the bricks and mortar of keeping classes/people in their place. i think humanity has come a long way and should recognize the limitation of such beliefs. again, i really think it aint about respect. its something different

I've been taking J at face value but the use of the phrase "it doesn't take much effort" there does seem waaaaay ahead of her apparent grammatical ability doesn't it. Though you never know...

yeah good call matty, i think the troll got a little careless here, and wasnt paying attention to that chunk of meaning. they did their best to pass off a non-native grammar, but alas, you cant keep the inner troll quiet, now can ya?

I like stretching my legs and singing a bit before a movie. Nic pics too! Wonderful person he is.
Conversely, I wouldn't stoop to give GWB my cum rag.

Same for me, it's the same reason I wai. I'm a guest here so I participate in the culture. I would expect the same of guests back home.
Personally, I do genuinely respect this man, for all the reasons stfranalum gave, as well.
