What is Thai Culture Exactly.

Considering how proud Thai's are of their culture what exactly is it that is unique to Thailand, I've done a bit of research and can't find anything. What I have found out is that:

1.The King is Amercian
2.The national anthem was written by a German
3.Thai dancing comes from Cambodia
4.The religion is Indian
5.The Myths and Legends are Indian (The Ramakien)
6.The first Thai money was printed on an English presser (gift from Queen Victoria 1850)
7.The Garuda symbol on every government building which means Un-corruptable is Indonesian
8. The Wai is Indian
9. The Thai alphabet comes form Cambodia

So what is unique to thailand exactly, is it all just copy cut paste? can anyone come up with a list of what is Thai? or add to this one?

I'm not on an anti Thai ran't here by the way, I think this place is great because it is a mix of lots of different things, but I get the impression that the Thais think it was all created by them.

Thai culture, the delicious food, the relaxed attitude to life, the Thai smile, wonderful Isaan people. People who get on with life in the face of poverty. Thats thai culture where i am. the bits i don't like i don't get involved with and choose to ignore.

Re: What is Thai Culture Exactly.

Presuming this is a wind-up, but anyway...I think the word 'Thai' relates to the current borders of the country, whereas you correctly state that there are many influences impacting on this 'hub' of Asia. The Chinese and Indian nations have traditionally been regional superpowers and have influenced everything from religion to art and architecture. The food of the South is heavily influenced by Malaysia, and the people out my way speak a mixture of languages including Lao (Isaan), Khmer and even some Vietnamese.

Is anything 'pure' when you speak of culture? The very word suggests not.

wind up? all the facts are on the internet, although you can't find accurate Thai history in Thailand. i just thought i'd look into it a bit, kind of interested in finding out more about the place in which I live, that's all.

I think it does no mate? We're (England) not the same but I think those born in American can claim citizenship (not sure though).
