Paedophile gets bail
The Criminal Court yesterday sentenced a 61-year-old American man to 16-years in jail for luring two underage girls into performing lewd acts, which he videotaped.
Glen Richard Allen was nevertheless granted bail of Bt1.6 million and barred from leaving the country.
He was accused of paying two 14-year-old Thai girls Bt500 each to perform oral sex on him while he videotaped them. He was also found guilty of molesting two other girls.
Allen maintained his innocence and said he was only a tourist.
However, the court ruled evidence from witnesses and officials provided a true account of the defendant's behaviour and they had no reason to defame him and convicted him.
The court was told Police Lt-General Montri Jamroon had received information that a woman had procured underaged girls for four foreigners, including the defendant, at Pattaya for lewd acts.
Allen was arrested on February 17 last year, along with Britons Maurice John Praill and Stephen James Ellison and a Finnish man identified only by his first name Hero. Police claimed the four were part of an international gang of human traffickers and paedophiles in Pattaya.
The other three have yet to stand trial.

Also it turns out that one of the group, John Maurice Praill, was "sentenced" to 14 years jail for his paedo crimes back in 2001 by a Thai court. Bail was set 10,000 Bahtand he obviously went back to his fiddling ways.
How long will this American serve for his crimes???? I think once Sergeant Somchai sees the 1.6m Baht bail the fiddling American scumbag will be free again..........
After the good work of the Thai police in apprehending so many 'known' paedophiles last year, this really does send them back to square one in terms of credibility. They're happy to track these vile pervs down and 'save the day' but as soon as the dust has settled and media attention has shifted slightly negotiations begin with the most obvious outcome.

A good journalistic write-up (in an international paper) on the utter ineffectiveness and corruption of the Thai justice system is what's needed. Shame/Loss of face is the only way to motivate the Thais with the power to effect change imo...
I'm sure the Thai police are doing their best to apprehend the Thais involved in this case.

If only western media and governments would make the Thai authority lose massive amounts of face by gloablly publicising how incompetent and stupid they are they might actually do something about it... I doubt it but hey, there's nothing quite as satisfying as pointing out a system that is completely inept to those who are part of it...
