Thai Paedo Busted
Man Confesses to Improper Activities with Minor.
Late on Friday night a 41-year-old Thai man was brought to Banglamung Police Station where he confessed to engaging in improper sexual activities over a period of a month with a 10-year-old Thai girl.
Police were alerted to the man’s actions by the parents of the 10-year-old. They had noticed their daughter had become withdrawn and reclusive in recent weeks, where previously she had been lively and outgoing. After pressing her to explain why her mood had changed she told her parents that a family friend who had been allowed to pick her up from school each day was taking her back to his room. Here he would engage in solitary masturbation after undressing the girl. Naturally incensed, the parents went to the police to file a complaint.
The 10-year-old victim has been sent for a physical examination by medical practitioners to determine if she has been raped by the man. Even if the results of this are negative, the man will face legal proceedings which could result in his incarceration.

Remember when John What'shisname (Kerr?) was on the front pages for days? I remember looking on page five to find a story of two Thai M teachers confessing to a years worth of molestation with about 12 girls. All Kerr did was scare a couple of kids.

Equality in how a suspected criminal like this is investigated, treated and prosecuted, regardless of nationality. When it's a farang it's sensational, when it's a Thai ho-hum. Is that so cynical?

That is nonsense. You watch the Thai news and you'll see everyone paraded in front of the camera, ID documents open to all and sundry, regardless of nationality. That's how it's done here.
Foreigners are treated no worse. The foreign community hears about other foreigners that have been arrested, that's why it appears more publicised.

Agreed when the charge is drugs or violent crime, but when it's improper sexual conduct with minors (if it even gets investigated) it's downplayed. Maybe something about the nature of this crime makes Thais feel like they're losing face as a whole? Just speculation thought because they have no trouble with the concept that a few drug runners don't reflect poorly on Thais as a whole.
It is an uncomfortable topic and IME Thais are masters at avoiding confronting anything uncomfortable. I believe this is why much of these crimes go unreported here. There's no support system for these victims to come forward, in fact if they do THEY lose face, and chances are they don't come from the best family if this abuse is going on. Just keep quiet and don't rock the boat, fortunately for this poor girl her family is the exception.
