Petchaburi (UP) - At least 14 farang survived a horrendous case of alcohol poisoning, all but eight from former colonies of Great Britain, authorities said on Sunday.
Press reports said that about 10 teachers, a biker and a former 'tutor' turned web-designer had bused in from Bangkok to Hua Hin, a province of southern Thailand last Friday and had gathered for a party.
Tityporn Nutsack, who works in the Up-to-You bar in the city of Hua Hin, told reporters they were drinking a local alcoholic drink called Singha, which is made of ethylated alcohol, formaldyhde and other ingredients.
She said that the first beers occurred on Friday and the beer-toll had been climbing since then. More than 900 bottles were drunk by Sunday.
Reports from Somchai Bawnbag, a former Montri Bus Driver, suggest that the rabble may have started drinking in Bangkok. Although local Bangkok police are sceptical, due to the Mr Bawnbags psychological condition, they have raised the beer-toll to nearer the 1000 mark.
British Embassy officials in Bangkok said the embassy was still checking whether 8 of the men were really UK nationals. 'I would expect this kind of behaviour from the Paddies and former colonials', an official was quoted as saying, 'but this isn't the norm for your average Brit'.
