So what kind of software would a mom and pop operation using say 15 client and a server need to record all this for the 90 days? What is the price if they use legit software? How much space would the data require. I assume it would be put on a separate dedicated harddrive so if the authorities want it you would unplug it rather than let them cart off the server.

You'll have to add the USA to your list of sheep then as the Bush administration have been trying to introduce similar laws after the EU introduced theirs. But maybe that wouldn't fit in with your inept summation of events.

True. It's ropey alright. That's where I read about it though. I rarely look at the Post website.

I was and what they're intending to use it for.

I just had visions of cops arresting bloggers or forum users who may say something naughty about HM or send a picture of Nong Nat to a mate. Lese majeste is almost exclusively used for political reasons as opposed to genuinely protecting the name of the crown, as far as I can see. I'd presume this is another law which gives politicians another weapon to get at their enemies rather than actually stopping any genuine crime.

Trying to catch people sending porn as well, I mean ferChrisakes. The prince has a well publicised home video that could be deemded pornographic which is on the net. Surely they should be going after their domestic producers of porn before the consumers.

Does the EU require internet shops to collect user identies too? You've got to admit that's pretty scandalous. It indicates to me authorities scared of their populous.

Italy supposedly does, not sure how the rest of the member countries have implemented / are going to implement the directive.

Sage correct me if I'm wrong but if the responsibility lies with the companies needing to mine their internet data, doesn't that mean they have to mine data before it is actually piped through ssl or proxies?

Big brother indeed, it used to be an iron cage now it has become a fiber cage.

Well, whoever provides the server where the proxy is running or making the secure socket connections would be responsible for holding that data as far as I am aware. They are concerned with logging connection details rather than the content of actual emails etcetera as far as I know.

Storm in a glass of water methinks as many companies already have logging details stored. SMEs would be a bit different as they need extra hardware (hard disks, logging software is very cheap as in free).

Bear in mind what they say they're going to do and what they actually do....generally two different things.....I think they more often than not use bluffing over actual doing.

Yes, I agree. They have been doing pretty much the same thing voluntarily in the UK for quite a while. Mind you the UK appears to be trying to become a world leader in the length of time you can lock someone up without charging them for any offence at the moment.

Voluntarily because they were logging traffic already to see how much was work related and how much was for private use.

Probably because most posters on this board live in Thailand. That might have something to do with it.

Classified as ''Inept'' as my posting may well be be,however too bloody true in the L.O.S.

I still love the place though after 17 years here.

Anyway Sage and Onion, shouldn't you be stuffing something other than me ?
