Brit Red Shirt Deported; BKK Malls Sleep More Soundly

Thai demo arrest Briton Jeff Savage is deported to UK

A Kent man filmed apparently inciting Thai protesters to burn down a shopping centre has been deported to the UK.

Jeff Savage, 48, a former royal porter from Tonbridge, pleaded guilty to breaching an emergency decree imposed to halt anti-government protests.

He was jailed for three months but a Thai judge halved the term last week and said he could be freed immediately.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed Mr Savage had returned to the UK.

He had been in living in Thailand for nine years.

He was arrested after he was captured on video appearing to exhort protesters to set fire to the Central World shopping centre in central Bangkok during major civil unrest.

Savage was filmed wearing a bandanna and saying of Central World: "We're gonna loot everything, gold, watches, everything, and then we're gonna burn it to the ground."

The shopping centre was later set fire to and destroyed during the violence which has gripped the country since Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted as prime minister in 2006.

Savage was reported to have been living with his elderly parents in the beach resort of Pattaya.

The Thai authorities should have deported him from the start. Why put him in jail at the cost of tax payers? Isn't that adding insult to injury? And further, did he really burn anything down? Did the authorities have concrete proof? It would seem they were simply looking for scapegoats, and this stupid bastard was top on the list thanks to that video of him acting a complete fool.

So, he has now returned to the UK after living in Thailand for 9 years. I wonder what he will do now? It will be hard to adjust to life back in his home country after a decade living in the far east.

Now, if only the Thai government could send the hundreds of other wankstain foreigners packing. It would do a lot of good for the country...and for the normal people who travel or work in Thailand

What I really want to know is how this lunatic made a living in Thailand for 9 years, the mind boggles....Was he a teacher? Now that would have been something to see, a classroom run by this prick!

Maybe the Queen will give him his old job back.

He should serve time for stupidity.

No one knows if he actually helped torch the place, but if he'd have made those threats in the UK or US, just hours before the building is razed, you can bet he'd be rotting in a cell for some time.

for those of us who love thailand , or bangkok anyway, at least 85% of the time, yeah, the REAL penalty here is NOT be able to stay here .

i don't know how the montenegran / ugandan / khmen / dubaiian can stand it . and he's got more money than me .

it's hard to believe the ex-pattayan savage would put that privilege at risk
