it's not that the 'trip went ahead', but that she decided to get on the boat in spite of the crap weather.

Excellent point; protected from womb to tomb; no thanks.

I'm sure there was no refund offered. Still, 6,000 baht or so should be low enough for folks like this to walk away from it.

Another good point; choices! That's one reason I no longer use buses, public vans, and public transportation in general. Rode the various kamikaze expresses for years and decided 4 years ago; NO MORE!
    We drive everywhere, including Bangkok.
I've always wondered why people just don't pay attention; over loaded boat? Obviously rough conditions? Use your effin brain!

I was on a dive boat in Octoer when the weather turned very nasty. It was a monsoon that rolled in, but rather than head back and refund our money, the tour operator stayed out. We were sitting on unsecured deck chairs, so as the wind and rain lashed us, the deck chairs slid to and fro on the slick upper deck as we rode and rolled around the large swells. When we asked the captain to return to shore, he refused. Everyone looked very scared, so I went out from under the holey protective tarp and stood in the bow and screamed at the monsoon, same as the Lieutenant Dan character from 'Forrest Gump' did when his shrimp boat was caught in a hurricane. I thought it was funny at the time.
