Red Bull clan pay B3m to victim's kin | Bangkok Post: news

Is it just me or does 3 million baht seem incredibly low from such a wealthy family? I would have been expecting upwards of ten million

...it compensates for a lifetime's worth of daily bribes...the payment was probably made from the family's snack fund...
...majestically enthroned amid the vulgar herd...

It is quite high for a Thai death payout - the amount set doesn't usually follow the rules of wealth and higher payments as it might do in a US court, the Thai system is all based on negotiation and power. I would have thought that the family of the dead cop could count themselves pretty lucky to have 3 mill. As TC says, it will adequately compensate them for a lifetime of taking 'donations' to the widows and orphans.

As a lower ranking cop, his salary won't have exceeded 20k, on this basis the payout is quite generous.

Generous offer indeed. About 10 times the man's year salary.

...as noted, salary hardly counts where police casualities are concerned...the greater offence, that this evil spawn of wealth will serve no jail or even monastery time, seems to perfectly suit the local Buddhist culture...in monotheistic cultures, where a Wrathful Lord rules the courts, the price for such drunken folly would be much higher...

Traces of cocaine were found in the blood of the Red Bull heir who ran a traffic-police officer over with his Ferrari this year.

The Thong Lor Police Station told the media yesterday that Vorayuth Yoovidhya, 27, the youngest son of Red Bull tycoon Chalerm Yoovidhya, did indeed have traces of cocaine in his blood as well as more alcohol than is permissible by law on the day of the accident.

Vorayuth was scheduled to make his way through the circus of reporters at the police station to hear his charges yesterday. Pol Lieutenant Akarawin Sukhonthawit, deputy commander and acting chief of the Thong Lor Police Station, said yesterday evening that though the suspect was supposed to show up in the afternoon, he had not been seen yet.

Akarawin said the suspect would have to explain to police why he could not show up, especially since he has postponed meetings with police several times already. If he failed to show up at the end of the day, police would consider confiscating the bail money and seeking an arrest warrant.

Police have also asked medical experts to verify how the use of cocaine can affect one's mental abilities, and said this latest discovery would lead to an additional charge against Vorayuth.

    ---Update---

I read the settlement has been reached for around 3 million baht. How much was the car? One day these all mighty fuckers will kill the wrong guy.

...to the family, of course...the state is very forgiving where the wealthy are concerned...
