Candor (calling a crappy deal a crappy deal and providing support by way of argument) would inevitably embarrass an advertiser/seller. Honest sharing of opinion is is bad for business when the sole purpose of the place is marketing. Imagine the horror of readers if the ethic were changed to honesty and candor over colourful ads and technical flash.

As to Capricious' post. I don't think people are being held in check. Ask yourself who is worse here? The guy selling the xbox for more than it's worth, or the 3-4 assholes who just popped in here to spew negativity and one-off comments.

skettios -- why not allow the market place to have it's way? As a person who knows nothing about the object being sold I thought some of the comments may have had some merit. I trust a rigorous debate waaay more than some guy unloading an over priced toy at the expense of the full truth.
