Tongue Twisters for ESL/EFL!
What are some of your favorites? (Clean please)
More importantly, which ones target typical Thai students' pronunciation difficulties?
-----
I recommend explaining to your students that this activity has little to do with vocabulary or meaning. Stress that it's for pronunciation practice mainly.
Model and drill. T1 - Class2 - Pair3 - Individual students4
Incorporate games, activities, competitions.
Stress home practice.
Follow-up by checking progress in class.
-----
Here are some I've used:
I saw Susie sitting in a shoe shine shop.
Where she sits she shines, and where she shines she sits.
How can a clam cram in a clean cream can?
The thirty-three thieves thought that they thrilled the throne throughout Thursday.
Red leather, yellow leather.
Wetter leather never weathered, wetter weather better.
She sits on the sheets, on the sheets she sits.
I saw Susie sitting in a shoe shine shop.
Where she sits she shines, and where she shines she sits.
Real weird rear wheels
Something in a thirty-acre thermal thicket of thorns and thistles thumped and thundered threatening the three-D thoughts of Matthew the thug - although, theatrically, it was only the thirteen-thousand thistles and thorns through the underneath of his thigh that the thirty year old thug thought of that morning. by Meaghan Desbiens

Re: Tongue Twisters for ESL/EFL!
The classic Asian difficulty with L's and R's can be helped with the old "Around the ragged rocks the ragged rascal ran."
They also have problems with the O sound as in 'phone' so I've made a few up such as "I own my own home" and "Oh no! O's left his phone at home."
Another one my kids butcher is the A as in 'cake' so I use "I've baked a cake and it tastes great."
Good thread J.

When I was an actor, (a thespian, if thou will) a popular voice warm-up was "Rubber baby-buggy bumpers."

Re: Tongue Twisters for ESL/EFL!
^^ The pheasant plucker is a famous song. There's a line (said in gay voice): "I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's friend. I'm only plucking pheasants as a means unto an end."

O fragrant frolicking Llewellyn!
Rise and rouse the lorokeets,
Their rice is fried and ready.

Here's one I made up that seems to work well.
What wash was washed while Will watched his watch?

Re: Tongue Twisters for ESL/EFL!
Could someone make one up that includes the word 'time'? What is it with this word? Every Thai I've met pronounces it 'tarm' yet they have no problem with 'I'm'...
Also 'head' (generally pronounced 'hate'). My wife simply can't get this one.

The thyme needs time to tick and think.
I hate a head here having hell and hitting home.

Re: Tongue Twisters for ESL/EFL!
I'm pretty fond of some of my own:
For L's, R's and ending t, k and s sounds.
Lice like rice for the right price.
And one that focusess just on ending sounds:
Dump trucks dumped junk at the dump, and the junk at the dump stunk.

Re: Tongue Twisters for ESL/EFL!
Nice.
How about this relatively common one:
Do you like fried rice?
I'd like a T-shirt that states: "I lie fly lye"
