    Re: Idioms Around The World

    Nice one Matthew; idioms were one of the hardest things for my students and Thai teachers to understand. I spent hours explaining them and printed out many pages of examples. Thais have great idioms also, just like we do in the west and I really enjoyed sharing east versus west examples of idioms. I think idioms are the heart of a culture.
    Frederick Douglass: Find out just what any people will quietly submit to
    and you have found out the exact measure of injustice
    and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these
    will continue till they are resisted with either
    words or blows, or with both.

    Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn;
    “Don’t believe them, don’t fear them, don’t ask
    anything of them.”

    My favorite Thai idiom is "Pak chii loy na" it means don't mind that the soup is bad, just make it pretty. Comes in very handy at a government school.

    Nice one.
    I like the Thai one: at low tide ants eat fish; at high tide fish eat ants (every dog has his day).
    Sur votre bicyclette, mate.
