Re: The best concert/gig you've ever been to?
A few stick out.....
The Who- Brum NEC, 'Farewell tour' 1989. I hadnt been to many gigs before this...fucking splendid!
Jesus and Mary chain-Cardiff Uni October 89...just about enough room for all the hair that night(If you could see it through effects of the smoke machine!)
Morrissey-Salisbury Town Hall 2000...reports of his demise had been greatly exaggerated
Beta Band- Cardiff Coal Exchange 2000...awesome
Doves- Bristol 2001, Carpets-Cardiff Uni 90, Public Enemy-Bristol 91
Roses-Newport 95, Great gig and Ian Brown sporting a Cardiff City jersey..bliss!
A few shit ones:
Roses-Spike Island May 1990...one beer tent, shit sound and a fucking long wait for the main act
St Etienne-Cardiff 1993...40 minutes tops and 'We dont do encores, we're superstars'(next gig was good mind
The worst...Oasis Bangkok 2006. Last time I ever watch them. The 'we don't want to be here' shitty attitude is blown off the stage by Franz Ferdinand and Sir Ian Brown.
Theres lots of other gigs that I cant remember much about, I think they were good!

Saw The Clash live at Bingley Hall Birmingham on the 'Combat Rock' tour. Incredible live band - Strummer's intensity was just brilliant.

Wedding Present at Brixton or Kilburn...both were good!
Ride....Slough Festival.....almost collapsed (well did).
Pixies.....Crystal Palace.
Had some great Glastoes....but I assume they don't really count.

Re: The best concert/gig you've ever been to?
I know we have had this thread before because I remember posting my best gig was the Last Waltz at Winterland.
The first gig I ever saw was great as well. Janis Jopin with Big Brother and the Dead. Opened by some obscure British act at that time called Jethro Tull. Fillmore West and $3.50 admission.
Van Morrison and Joan Armatrading at the Marin County Civic Center.
Bob Marley at the Paramount in SF.

The Winterland, San Francisco?
Isn't that where the Pistols played their last ever gig with Sid? 'Ha ha ha, ever get the feeling you've been cheated?'

I believe that is the same place. AFAIK it was the last live gig - period. (Not counting the Finsbury Park mime-fest which, while it was a laugh, filled me with a strange sense of desolation (*wink*)

'The summer of phlegm' I thought it was a good laugh and thought it would be a one off to reclaim some of the dough that Maclaren 'swindled' them out of. Got backstage through a mate but Pistols had gone; just a load of old punks left (Kevin Rowlands, Pete Shelley being the highlights) and Supergrass+Ash.
Made the mistake of asking Tenpole Tudor as to who killed bambi and he ended up cadging cigs off me all night!

Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
I used to live in Seattle, Washington and every year up there during the Labor Day weekend (the first weekend of September in the USA) there is a huge music and arts festival called the "Bumbershoot Festival" It's located in the park that surrounds the famous Seattle Space Needle in downtown Seattle. I went to Bumbershoot about 5 years in a row and always saw amazing shows everyone one of the 4 days each year. I saw bands that ranged from rock to blues to jazz to funk to reggae to ???. They have many big name groups as well as many local Seattle bands and musicians playing. Some of the most memorable ones I can recall off the top of my head are (in no particualr order):
George Clinton & The P-Funk Allstars (Funk)
Maceo Parker (Funk)
Isaac Hayes (Funk)
Luther Allison (Blues)
Dick Dale (Surf Rock)
Bela Fleck & The Flecktones (Bluegrass/Jazz/Funk)
Indigenous (Blues)
Tony Levin (Jazz)
One year theyhad a 4 hour Jimi Hendrix tribute cincert there too. Jimi's dad and sister were there along with lots of guest musicians like John Mclaughlin, Eric Gales, Randy Hanson, The P-Funk Guitar army, etc. I can't remember all who was there, but it was an OK concert.
They also had a comedy stage each year with some headline comedians and films as well in another theater. All in all Bumbershoot is one of the best festivals I've ever been to and is consistently great.
