Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
all the old rockers on here are making me extremely jealous!!!!
saw Henry Rollins live back in 1994. amazing intensity in a small venue. i remember he told nobody to mosh and everyone obeyed he was a like a caged animal up there with the microphone wrapped around his hand like a python. he played most of the stuff from weight and end of silence

Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
Lollapalooza Festivals:
First one outside Detroit around 91' ....Janes Addiction headlined...honorable mention: Butthole Surfers
92' ish..... Chicago (Soldier Field) Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Ministry, Red Hot CHili Peppers...
93 ish....Alice in Chains with Primus as the headline. Layne Staley hit the stage in a 3-piece suit and announced he had just gotten out of rehab and would someone please throw him a joint.....many did and the show began as he sparked.
Detroit (90's) Janes in a club with a metal fence seperating them from the raucus, bottle weilding crowd.
Detroit, Mettalica....(year?)....think it was Master of Puppets tour...copious amounts of cocaine.
RUSH....repeat above.
Pink Floyd...twice in the same month....liquid acid.

Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
Grew up outside Chicago, probably made 50 concerts before I joined the Air Force...maybe 50 since.
4 Jul 1976 - 1st big concert Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Headeast, Ted Nugent, & Foghat. Someone else I can't remember.
July 1977 - Pink Floyd Animals - Soldiers Field Chicago, remember two pigs floating...that is about it.
Zappa 3x, Chicago, Germany, and New York
Rush more times than I can remember...Yes a few times in Chicago and once in Germany
Mellencamp about 6x. Steely Dan 2 yrs running on Sept 18th, Atlanta and Phoenix...only remember that because my divorce became final that day and it was the ex's B-day...happy me, her favorite band.
Two recent concerts Santana in Dallas (also Chicago and Seoul) with Robert Randolph (that kid just tore the house down.
This past August seen the CSN&Y Freedom of Speech tour in Atlanta..3+ hours...one of the best shows.
I am a concert junkie...don't party like I did before...seem to remember them better that way. Now I just think I need to see the old acts before they die off...may be the last chance for some of these dudes. Damn, the flood of memories.

Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
1982 The Black in Black Tour by AC DC ( first one after Bon Scot Died and they got Brian Johnston)
Man O man . It was my first concert , the Melbourne Moomba festival was on at the same time ...Melbourne was just wild. I seen cops bashing TV camera men because they were filming the Pigs bash teenagers.. A old bearded bloke in the crowd came up to me wild I was walking across a bridge over the Yarra ..He shook me and said " I've made up me mind i'm going back to the snowy mountains" and then he jumped off the bridge 100 ft into the river. I seen the copers riding into the crow ( outside the concert) at full pelt on their horses I seen some cop horses go down . One copper got a beer bottle smashed across his face. I seen a tram speeding along being followed by two highway patrol cars. 12 year old kids drunk up trees with the coppers below trying to coax them down , the kids urinating on the coppers.Inside the concert everything was fine ...I did spend a bit of time looking under the tarp at the back fence at the riots ..until a beer bottle smashed right in front of my face. I got a few cuts out of that. at Flinders Street station the railway cops were just shoving people on to trains to try and get them out of the city ...

Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Perth Entertaiment Centre - Energy plus, all of them barefoot with only leather pants on going fucking balistic.
REM - Perth Entertaiment Centre - Kick off world tour, MS had to use word sheet.
Perth, Big Day Out -Rage Against The Machine (Last mosh pit I ever went in), stopped on my way out and happened to catch the up coming Prodigy.
Hoodoo Gurus - Sydney, Homebake - Wow
Hole - Fremantle, small club - Courtney, who was flashing the gash, got hit with a flying converse sneaker. She lept into the crowed kicking and punching
