Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
System of a Down last year in Melbourne .....Actually I was in Thailand and went back to Oz to see the concert.( And Me mates )
I was the Oldest Geriatric there........
I have never see crowd surfing like it. There must have been 200 bodies in the air at any given moment.
I head banged the night away.

Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
I went to a gig back in 1984 called Narara, up the NSW coast near a place called Old Sydney Town. Lots of Aussie bands during the day and big OS names in the evening...Talking Heads amongst others.
During the day, my favourite Sydney band was on, The Expression. I had a bit of a soft spot for the keyboard player. As a consequence, I took a fair few photos of him and the band.
Low and behold, 12 years later, my best female friend hooked up with a new guy. Yep, you guessed it...it was THAT keyboard player.....I says, I've got photos of you at Narara..She married him this year and I was her best man...
Now I get to go to gigs full of 80's rockers from Australia and relive some of my favourite music.

Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
i saw aphex twin play back in the early 00's. had consumed some class a's and a bottle of buckfast so was very excitable needless to say. when he played the intro to come to daddy the whole front of the hall filled up with lads and a huge mosh pit erupted. great fun!! i think that was the last moshing exercise i got..

Damn, zehner, with every i post i think you are cooler and cooler...
first of all, you have the Sandman in your avatar, and now you start talking about Henry Rollins?? I saw him support the Chilis at the same gig I mentioned earlier, and, although he scared the fuck out of me, and I would never want to get the wrong side of yey muscled cant, he was possibly the best poetic wordsmith, and also the funniest bastard, in the whole world!
And after that long sentence, I'm left just thanking my lucky stars that I would never have to force any laughter at yay muscley cant's brilliant jokes!

Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
you sweet talker you!!
i saw him give a spoken word gig as well. he was funny as hell in his own deadpan manner and as per usual very intense.
also saw jello biafra giving a spoken work performance. again...very cool but couldn't help regretting i hadn't ever seen him with the dead kennedy's. that would have been something to tell the kids!!

i genuinely thought that was just me and my old reprobate homies...
seen loads of gigs, been super lucky.
highlights include both the orb and spiritualised at glastonbury, around 1991.
public enemy and nirvana at reading, same year.
one of my favourites tho had to be queens of the stone age, norwich u.e.a., i guess around 1999/2000. goatsnake opened up and i always love their heavy soul stuff. and then the queens were awesome. soooooooo confident and comfortable, music sooooooooo heavy and deliriously psychedelic but punk as fuck. the first gig i think i ever have been to where people spontaneously made room for themselves and actually danced! people were grooving hard, no moshing, seemed that everyone became locked into their own personal zone with the music. place was wild, like the sixties...
that was one of my best. too many to mention tho...
oh. pantera, for me, are always something else. and monster magnet...i could go on...

saw tindersticks with full orchestral accompaniment in dublin about 5 years ago. the lead singer sounded even better live. great gig.

Re: Memorable gigs/festivals
yeah saw queens twice. both times great. first at an ozzfest at about one in the afternoon. i'd made an effort to be suffeciently...er...relaxed for the show. nothing like a monster buzz at one in the afternoon and a fucking great band playing!
seen rollins' spoken word shows three times. hung out a little, interviewed him. great fun. nice guy. would have loved to seen his band play circa 'end of silence', the last good album they did.
tindersticks; cool. thinking about them reminded me ofa lovely gig. my last night in the u.k., my best buddy suprised me with tickets to see 'lambchop' at the royal albert hall, the night before my flight. so we're in some london boozer, sinking them, and he pulls these tickets out of his pocket! "you fucking beauty!" fantastic show. very beautiful. the band really played with the acoustics of the place, very clever and powerful stuff. oh and being lagged in the royal albert hall was almost a treat enough in itself!

This is where I fucked up major like! Had a chance to see Floyd(the real Floyd with Waters and Gilmour) that year on that tour and I didn't go. Turned out to be the last shot I had.
The same thing with Led Zep.....I fucked up and never got to see them live either.
Heart, Queen, Rush, and AC/DC(with Bon Scott) were for my money the best live performers I did get to see...and that I remember. Queen was absolutely awesome live! Heart back in the day when the girls were still fit flat-ass kicked butt....Rush-good trippin! AC/DC...no need to explain! They were best in the small theatre venue I saw them in one time in Cleveland, and not too shabby in the big arenas as well. I feel privileged that I was able to witness Bon Scott and AC/DC live 4 or 5 times in concert.
