...boy does it still rock!
Who? Never 'eard of it.
New Model Army mate. Check 'em out on youtube, especially the marvelous "51st State" which alludes to the UK being just that.
They breathed some much needed life back into the Brit alternative rock scene in the mid-to-late 80's.
Their first album, Vengeance caused such a stir that they were snapped up by EMI. They charted a few times too, and always had sell out tours.
They're still touring/recording, but I lost touch with them when I started to get into dance music. Sorted for E's and whizz like.
Oh right. New Model Army. One of my teachers in school was into them. I don't really like the sound of their albums. Something about the production or the 80s feel. Dunno exactly. Sepultura did a song of theirs on Chaos AD. The Hunt I think it was. I always associated them with The Levellers too, who I didn't really dig either.
Am I missing out?
The Hunt is a blinder of a song. I would love to hear Sepultura's version.
Basically, you can't go wrong with the first 4 NMA albums. The Ghost Of Cain is by far the most accessible IMHO.
They had a group policy that wouldn't let them mime on TV shows. They had to play live or they didn't show. No videos were allowed on shows like Top Of The Pops either. Well, at least not in the early days. They would have been massive if it wasn't for their stance. I'm amazed EMI let them get away with it.
They were associated with the Levellers, but only because they shared the same group of hardcore fans. I could never figure that one out though. Maybe something to do with hippy travellers and the convoy that was going around at that time.

It's very true to the original apart from the vocals.
Justin Sullivan had/has a brilliant voice.
