saw them about a million times in my teens - everywhere you went Hawkwind were playing outside for free - I partickly remember the Space Ritual tour

Yeah, me too.The first time I saw them was in a small hall next to a pub in Epping Forest, aboout 100 people there. All Hawkwind used then was a strobe! Pretty soon they progressed to a full blown light show with the naked slpper dancing!
