The Stooges - No Fun
Sometimes you almost (but not quite) wish these things could be taught formally...
"Kids, this is rock'n'roll. In all its fucked-up, shambolic glory (stop crying Timmy)".

Re: What are you listening to right now?
^^ powerful stuff...desreves a write up...
"Thanks for the wild turkey and
the passenger pigeons, destined
to be shit out through wholesome
American guts.
Thanks for a continent to despoil
and poison.
Thanks for Indians to provide a
modicum of challenge and
danger.
Thanks for vast herds of bison to
kill and skin leaving the
carcasses to rot.
Thanks for bounties on wolves
and coyotes.
Thanks for the American dream,
To vulgarize and to falsify until
the bare lies shine through.
Thanks for the KKK.
For nigger-killin' lawmen,
feelin' their notches.
For decent church-goin' women,
with their mean, pinched, bitter,
evil faces.
Thanks for "Kill a Queer for
Christ" stickers.
Thanks for laboratory AIDS.
Thanks for Prohibition and the
war against drugs.
Thanks for a country where
nobody's allowed to mind the
own business.
Thanks for a nation of finks.
Yes, thanks for all the
memories-- all right let's see
your arms!
You always were a headache and
you always were a bore.
Thanks for the last and greatest
betrayal of the last and greatest
of human dreams."

Big Star - Big Black Car
An elegantly languid song soaked through with melancholy and resignation. Luscious.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy
Fit the Sixth
Zaphod’s stolen ship is the personal cruiser of the admiral of a Haggunenon battle fleet. The crew are organic and evolve constantly. Soon the ship is hazardous to our hapless travellers as the crew evolve in a hostile manner. Ford and Arthur escape back millions of years and arrive on a Golgafrincham Space Ark, full of frozen middle men. The ship crashes into a primitive planet.
The Complete 12 Episode Original Radio Series
By Douglas Adams
The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy is a giant encyclopaedia stored in a small computer whose purpose is to aid intergalactic hitchhikers on their journeys.
Reporter for the guide, Ford Prefect, is alerted to the imminent death facing his friend, Arthur Dent. He rescues him five seconds before construction of a bypass destroys the Earth. Arthur Dent is human with a liking for tea, while Ford Prefect comes from Betelgeuse and has developed a passion for the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.
The rescue involves hitching onto a Vogon space ship, however Vogons are not as likeable as expected and they are tortured with having to listen to Vogon poetry and then tossed into the void. Thirty seconds is the limit for human life in outer space. On the twenty ninth second succor takes the form of Zaphod Beeblebrox, the president of the universe on his ship, The Heart of Gold.
Other memorable characters encountered on their journey are Marvin, the incredibly depressed robot, and the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, who is remarkably stupid but very hungry.
The guide contains many useful entries such as the one on the towel, recommended as an indispensable article for the traveller. “Towels can be used for snaring birds whilst falling from a three-mile high marble statue; they can be used to signal temporally unstable spaceships by fossilizing them in planetary strata; and they can be soaked in nutrients to provide sustenance in awkward situations”.
It is the humour of the book that is most enlightening. Humans are considered to be primitive, the third smartest species on Earth, and Earth is considered “mostly harmless” and destroyed FIVE seconds before the secret of life is found. The answer to the meaning of life is 42, but what is the question?
Once you’ve encountered the Guide, your view of ‘life, the universe and everything’ will be transformed forever.

Arthur Dent watches as the clouds scud away in the lorry's wake. The rain ceases, allowing Arthur to dry off.
All Rob McKenna knows is that he can't remember his last sunny holiday. All the clouds know is that they love him, they want to be near him, to cherish him, to nurture him and to WATER him. For Rob McKenna is, in fact, a Rain God.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
One of my students has borrowed my copy of Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy to read. I'll be interested to see how much of the humor she gets...
