This is what I wrote on my brother's FB when he posted this link:
He had me at "bust the sketch". This is the thing about fresh-ta-death golden-age rap lyrics like this: they're actually onomatopoeia. "Bust the sketch" is actually THE SOUND of 'busting the sketch', there's no other 'meaning' to it linguistic or otherwise, no struggle by the MC to claim some ontological truth about his dopeness through reason or boast. This was horn blowin', this was taking 'lyrics' and blowing them through a horn of rappin' in rap-speak. Honest to goodness it's true and this song is one of the best examples of that amazing moment in American music when this was new and vibrant and real.
